Rifle Scopes nightforce 1st focal plane...yes'? or no?

Re: nightforce 1st focal plane...yes'? or no?

Many of us were awaiting a royal unveiling of a 5.5-22 version at the 2010 SHOT show, but no dice...maybe next year

That doesn't make a lot of sense, at least to me. Considering that Vortex will have a 4-16 Viper PST and a 6-24 Viper PST this summer. Also, the Vortex Razor HD is 5-20. It seems to me that would be a mistake for Nightforce to not come out with a new front focal. JMO

Re: nightforce 1st focal plane...yes'? or no?

I agree Jamie, made me look elsewhere. I called simply to not rule out NF on a scope purchase in case something was coming out in higher magnification.

Re: nightforce 1st focal plane...yes'? or no?

discussions with other people at Shot indicated something else.

A conversation that was had in one of the halls, “Why would we build a FFP version of our most popular scope” (sarcasm intended). You read between the lines.

Re: nightforce 1st focal plane...yes'? or no?

Starting in 2004, I made the point to the Nightforce guys at the SHOT show that there was a demand for FFP scopes. Their response at the time was that there was no market.

It took them a while to catch on. Maybe they are still catching on.

Competition from Vortex and others may enhance the speed of that process.

Re: nightforce 1st focal plane...yes'? or no?

Yep Chiller,I perceived the same.

At the very least for 2010 I "predict" a Horus reticle and 10 mils per rev knobs on their 3.5-15F1 ????

I'm no Nightforce insider! I'm just guessing.

Well if Vortex does it right they may take away some of the NF customers. Maybe that scope will still be Nightforces most popular selling scope, they'll just sell less of them.

Re: nightforce 1st focal plane...yes'? or no?

Oh well...they wouldn't have had it fast enough for my current project anyway. I spoke to somebody in tech support concerning reticles and asked specifically "do you have plans for FFP in higher magnification scopes" Answer was a plain "No"

Re: nightforce 1st focal plane...yes'? or no?

Sooner or later they will come out with a higher magnification scope that is FFP if they have any business intellect. It is clear that there is an interest for this scope. The topic keeps coming up over and over again.

I recently needed a FFP scope with higher magnification. NF lost my business to Vortex because they had an option and NF didn't. I really like my SFP NF, but it was not an option for this particular rig.

Re: nightforce 1st focal plane...yes'? or no?

A friend was looking for 22X front focal just last night. He has a 15X NF F1 but is now having to look at other vendors because NF doesn't have one.

Re: "“Why would we build a FFP version of our most popular scope” "

Honestly if that's what they're thinking they are very much wrong. That kind of thinking makes companies lose hard-earned market share.

You have to provide what the market wants or someone else will. If they produce a scope that just happens to be more popular than their current one, who cares? More sales of the new scope vs. the old scope is a good thing. Why wouldn't a company want to have a new product that was more popular than their last one?

It's like Honda refusing to update their car line because the current model is selling so well. Yeah I guess so, but the growth of the company they have comes from innovation and delivering better products each year. I can assure you that Honda is selling way more 2010 Accords than they would be had they just stuck with the 1980 model.

Re: nightforce 1st focal plane...yes'? or no?

Even if they said no over the phone, eventually they are going to have to make one. With more and more people shooting the bigger caliber guns, the demand for a FFP tactical scope with a higher magnifiaction will be there.

I am sure, just as posted above, that there are plans and that they are already working on it. The F1 is a great scope, and it would be just as great with a higher magnification. Luckily I dont require anything over 15x at this time, but if other projects demand it in the future, I will be sure to look at NF's current offerings.

XOR.....please read my post. If you are going to quote me, please do it in the right context. The sarcasm (I even spelled it out) was to imply that it is coming down the line and WILL be produced.

Didn't mean to misquote. I've seen companies say all sorts of things that people thought were sarcasm but they were dead serious. I hope NF comes out with a FFP scope that goes 22X. I know at least one person that would have ordered one yesterday if it existed.

Re: nightforce 1st focal plane...yes'? or no?

WTH...22x sounds great, but after a few bifocal adjustments as ya age, 32x sounds real good too. and when ya figure out that a TDS scope is only on @ max magnification, a FFp starts making LOTS of sense. We're talking over a grand for glass as it is, hard to figure a top notch company not giving it a try. IMO

Re: nightforce 1st focal plane...yes'? or no?

NF will be catotonic with depression for a long time since Team Blaster is now running S&B's

Re: nightforce 1st focal plane...yes'? or no?

LOL We didn't mean that much to them. I am sure they are back at the discos picking up other Teams

Re: nightforce 1st focal plane...yes'? or no?

I am new to long range shooting and shopping for a scope. I will be using the rifle for 500yd steel silohette shooting and some varmit hunting. Its a 700 PSS in .308. I would really prefer a 15+ power scope- with that background-what is a FFP and would it benefit my application?

thanks.

Re: nightforce 1st focal plane...yes'? or no?

Eng07,

In this forum under the optics FAQ's link, there is a discussion thread on First Focal Plane (FFP) scopes. Check it out, you should be able to get an informed decission based on that reading.

Good Luck

P.S. Steel targets at a set range, NO You dont have to have it. Multiple targets, moving targets, at multiple ranges= Great idea to have it
