Greetings all,

I have read on another forum, that Nightforce used to produce a fixed 36 magnification power scope. I tried to search, but cannot find any pertinent information. I would appreciate if someone knowledgeable could provide any information or point me to the right direction.

Kindest regards,

M

Hi David,

thank you for the reply. I would like to get some basic technical data:

1. Weight
2. Length
3. Close focus ability
4. Reticle
5. Adjustment steps

From your personal experience, how would you rate the glass compared to, e.g., Leupold Competition, or any other scope with similar magnification?
Also, where would one find one, and how what would be a fair price?

Kindest regards,

M

HI M,

I don't remember the weight or length. It focuses down to 10 yards, even 9 1/2. Both of mine had duplex crosshairs, but I think it was available with a 1/8 min target dot. it had 1/8 MOA adjustments if I remember correctly. They are rarer than hens teeth, I think only 25 were made initially, and the market wouldn't support a full production run, so they never made any more. I've got the word out in Field Target circles, with lots of people I know, so guys know I want one to replace the one I sold. Going rate is from $850-$1200, depending on who's selling it and the condition. Hope I helped.

Hi David,

thank you again for the reply. Yes, my intended application is also FT, so close focus is a must. The "rarer than hens teeth" is a bad news.

Since you seem to be familiar with FT, could you recommend a scope at least 24x magnification that could be used? I would prefer fixed but will consider a zoom.

Kindest regards,

M

Hi M,

I just ordered a Leupold Competition 35x. They normally focus down to 10yds from the factory. If not, you can send it in to the custom shop and they'll re-calibrate it for you. They can also install a different reticle if you want. The other option is a Sightron SIII 10-50x60. However, I looked through one on Sunday, and while it snapped in and out of focus pretty good, I thought the glass quality left a lot to be desired. Between the two of those, I prefer the Leupold. What rifle are you are you shooting FT with, and where do you live?

David

Hi Guys,

A guy in our FT club runs a old NF. He's had problems with it and sent it back at least once. The glass isn't that great, IMO. They aren't the quality of the NXS for sure!

I sold my Leupold 45x last year. It's a pretty good scope. Two major complaints I had were...it only focused to 11y and the turret mechanism would turn while tightening the top hex screw down which necessitated redoing the zero over again until I got it right, this can be a real PITA! IMO, not having a reticle with hash marks in it is a disadvantage.

Ordered a Falcon 10-50 about 2 years ago. That scope was a POS so I immediately sent it back for a refund.

I'd try the Sightron over the Leupy.

FYI, I just won open PCP at LD's Temecula challenge with a S&B 5-25 with H-59. Now that's one awesome FT scope!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Steve, your S&B 5-25 focuses down to 10yds? Are you using a side wheel on it? I'm thinking about getting the new S&B FT II model when it becomes available.

Yea, true that the old NF isn't the same optically as the new NXS's, but as for a scope that has what FT requires, elevation click repeatability, close accurate focusing ( repeatability also ), and brightness, I think it still holds its own. I'll have to judge the Leupold when I get it. I've been in FT for almost 25 years, although I took the last 7 off, and I've yet to see a PERFECT FT scope, as all have pro's and con's.

Congrats on your win Steve! Hope to make it to that shoot soon!

Thanks D.

My particular scope focuses to 31 feet to be exact and is slightly out of focus at 30 feet. 3/8 KZ is no problemo at 10Y. Oh, yes I have a bigger side wheel on it which helps with the distance ranging.

BTW, I've never felt at a disadvantage with .1 mil clicks using it for FT and that darn H59 reticle is perfect for HFT using holdovers and holdoffs.

I hadn't heard about the FT II. I really hope they put .1 mil clicks in it!!!!

You'd enjoy Larry's match. It's quite entertaining to me all the funny personality's that show up to that match. You'd just have to of been there to see the drama unfold before your very eyes. The course itself is fun too.
