I have the chance to buy a Nightforce 5.5-22X50 NP-1RR for $1400. New in the box with everything that comes with it. I have never bought a nightforce before so would like a little expert advice. Is this a good deal? Would this retical be fine for some long range shooting and hunting??? Thanks guys.

Jake

I think you would be fine. I've never REALLY shot with a NF but have messed around with more than a few. Good scopes and $1400 NIB is a fair price IMO.

+1

I have the NP-R1 with MOA adjustments and love it, this was also my first Nightforce and can't be any happier.

FWIW, the 5.5-22 is $1630 from most dealers. I agree that that reticle isn't the greatest, but NF will change the reticle for about $150. And +1 on the NP-R1 being a badass MOA reticle.

That price is excellent for a NIB NF NXS 5.5-22 series scope.

The reticle leaves something to be desired for me. One of the guys at my club shoots an RR1 on his varmint/BR rifle. I would not consider it for a tactical rifle over an R1 (I own all R1's personally, have used mildot and the MLR as well). But if you study the RR1 and figure out how to use it, it will work. I just don't think it's as fast and user friendly as the R1's.

I would call and ask NF what it costs to swap the reticle out, I seem to remember it being a bit more than $150 but that might be incorrect on my part.

+1 ^^^ If you are going to sink the $$$ into good glass, get a reticle you can effectively use for wind holds, and holdovers/under.The MLR + mil, or NP-R1 + MOA are great reticles for that purpose. You just have to keep in mind SFP on the NSX.

You cant go wrong with Nightforce. IMO they are about bombproof. Ive owned two, and NEVER seen one fail.

If you are ready to fork over $1400, save a few more pennys up, and chances are pretty good you can pick up an NSX with zero-stop, and MLR, or NP-R1 for $1600 ish.

Like Steve S from Triad says - "Buy once, cry once..."

Just my .02.

Just my

What do you guys think of the NP 2DD reticle? Its seems to me that it would be better for long distance. Less clutter while looking though the optic. I am in the market for a NightForce scope, but seeing all these options, Im not even sure where to start lol

Re: Nightforce 5.5-22 NXS NP-1RR for $1400. Deal or ??

The NP-R1 reticle is my choice of reticle in a NF, Love the MOA/MOA. I'm not a big fan of the NP-1RR at all.
Like everyone else said, $1400 is a good deal

^^ ditto.

Re: Nightforce 5.5-22 NXS NP-1RR for $1400. Deal o

New B question- I see that you guys on here are mentioning a MIL reticles with MOA adjustments. I tried to search on NF website what you guys are talking about. Is there a different turret that you can choose from? Is it NOT good to get one reticle with a MOA or MIL turrets? Just curious to know. Im waiting for my Leupold to sell before I get a NF. From what I have read, the NF is bad azz!!

Re: Nightforce 5.5-22 NXS NP-1RR for $1400. Deal o

Jack yes NF is bad ass

MOA and MIL are different units of measurement, so if your reticle allows you take readings of distance (eg 1 mil high) if your turrets are in a different unit of measurement you will have to make that on the spot conversion to be able to make required adjustments.

Whereas if your Reticle and turrets are matched (mil/mil or moa/moa) you can easily make turret adjustments based on what you can see thru your matched reticle.

Make sense?

Re: Nightforce 5.5-22 NXS NP-1RR for $1400. Deal o

Vman- I understand the different units of measure. What I was trying to find out is, does the Scope come with a particular turret? I know you can order any reticle, but I was not sure if the turret option was also an upgrade or if it is standard and you must tell the dealer what you want?

Re: Nightforce 5.5-22 NXS NP-1RR for $1400. Deal o

yeah - you know it would be nicer if the cross hairs had more hash lines/marks, maybe a cross between npr1 and the 1rr, but more of the npr1. I guess that would almost make it dragunov-reticle like. Do the circles, or can the circles, have any sort of tactical application other than sizing up prairie dogs, coyotes, deer, etc..?

I saw a nightforce with the reticle like the one you're asking about go for 1200 only in a 3 - 15 x 56. I also saw quite a while back a 5.5 - 22x by 50 in the np1-rr go for 1380 i believe.

I think he already summed up my exact thoughts.

Re: Nightforce 5.5-22 NXS NP-1RR for $1400. Deal or ??

fyi, I spoke to Nightforce yesterday and the cost of getting a reticle change is $250. I just got an amazing deal on a LNIB 12x42x56 with the np1-rr and I am contemplating swapping it out for an npr1.

Re: Nightforce 5.5-22 NXS NP-1RR for $1400. Deal or ??

Changing the reticle or the turrets take about the same time to perform. The reticle would cost $ 250.00 to change and the turrets would cost $ 320.00. Both would require the optic being with Nightforce for approximately, 4-6 weeks.
