I see Nightforce will have a "lower price" probably lesser quality 4-14 this year sometime, but I think I really want a bit of extra magnification.

Because of this, the 5.5-22x50 is reduced to about $1,600
Can anyone think of any reason I should buy the 5.5-25x56 over the 5.5-22x50 ?

I'm thinking I'd rather have the 50mm (likely in mil-dot)

I'll be shooting .308 medium range, paper, steel and occasional hunt with it.
I realize I could get to the .308's max range with less, but my eyesight isn't what it was, and I have the money "now"

Any thoughts appreciated.

The 56mm will mount higher (obviously) and provide a slight edge in lowlight performance... we're talking an extra 60-90 seconds of shooting time at dawn and dusk.

Don't feel bad wanting 22x on a 308.

EDIT: I believe you've made a typo; there's a 5.5-22x50 and a 5.5-22x56, but no 5.5-25x56. I assume you were referring to the 5.5-22 models, and asking only about which obj. diameter to go with.

^ Valid point about exit pupil.

The x56 will have a slightly larger exit pupil at all magnifications.

Still, the 50mm can be mounted 3mm (~1/8") with the right choice in rings.

Where are you finding the nxs 50mm for this price? Pm me if you want or post it, I haven't been able to find that price. Thanks
