Hello guys I’m new to this forum and hate to start it of with a vs thread. I’m looking for a really good optic to run on my ar 15. I’m stuck between the Nightforce Atacr 1-8 and the new upcoming Schmidt and Bender 1-8 dual cc. Both seem to be awsome I’m mainly looking for something I can reach out 300-400 yards and can also use to train for some CQB drills. I’m not the best at anything but now I have the chance to get me a good optic and I don’t want to regret it after. Thanks in advance.

I have used the 1-4 cqb for years, some bitch about the reticle, I really like it. The 8x - I’d think the extra mag would help to alleviate those criticisms?

S&B w/ cqb reticle
so the Schmidt comes with a mil dot reticle and I feel it’s hard to pick up the hash marks or dots whatever they are called

I gotta be honest, I am sure that 8x is all that and a bag of chips, but I am not sure I could do it over the 4x. I have them on a gp 12.5 and 16. To me they are outstanding for GP from room distance to @ 500 or so. While it isn't easy to fractionalize the stadia at a distance, it is certainly possible, up close the dot is aim point bright and has plenty of room in the eye box. They aren't all that bad behind a pvs30 either. Maybe it is just me, but if I want more than than 4x / that distance / ability to resolve / precision - I want a different rifle / optic.

ps - I would not want a plain Jane Mil Dot myself.

YMMV

The S&B has been elusive in coming to market. When it does, the price is pretty steep. The ATACR, in my opinion, meanwhile, has proven itself to own the 1-8x space. I have handled both, and the NF has a far larger eye box, making two-eye open point and shoot as easy as an Aimpoint red dot. I like the dual reticle of the S&B, but at low magnifications, it might not be as needed.

Like both, but my vote is with the ATACR.
