Nightforce ATACR 4-20x50 Mil-xt or Schmidt & Bender 3-20x50 non-ultra short in Tremor 2 or 3

Should I wait it out and get the S&B when they come up or get the nightforce?

Would go on an 18" .308 gas gun pushing it out to 1000yds. I have been saving money & saving for almost 3 years now for my dream scope. A S&B 3-20x50 non-ultra short, but they hardly ever come up for sale. The Nightforce comes up for sale far more often. If you have experience with the 2 and don't mind sharing, please explain why you would choose one over the other.

I have that exact NF on a .224 Valk. I like it just fine. I’ve never handled the SB you mention, but I have several of their PM IIs in 5-25 and one 6-36, and they are my favorites. I have the Tremor 3 reticle on a NF 7-35 and I’m not a fan of the reticle (the scope itself is great). The T3 is way too cluttered for me and makes spotting misses much harder. I like the NF Mil-XT or the SB TRID 2 (not GRID 2) reticles much better. A Tremor 5 might not be too bad but I haven’t tried one, and I’m not familiar with the T2. Also, I have read from folks here that the glass on the NF 4-20 isn’t as good as the next one down the magnification ladder in the ATACR line (3-18, I think ? Edit: it's probably the 4-16x50 model that @ma smith mentions below that I'm thinking of). No experience with that, but something to research if you’re still deciding.

As mentioned the ATACR 4-16 x42 and the older 4-16x50 model are also worth looking at.Zeiss s5 3-18 is also somewhat similar in specs to the NF 4-20, maybe worth taking a look at also.

The ATACR x50s (both 16 and 20x) have like 15-16mils or more of internal travel, zeiss does as well. If your seriously talking 308win 1k to 1.2k etc that might come in handy. The x42 has like 12 mils or something, its still very usable, noticeably less than the x50 4-16x.

If you shoot tons of twilight, of course x50 all the way, but if its mostly mid-daylight the x42 is insanely versatile.
