I Will get some pics up tomorrow. First 3 shots cloverleafed at 100yds. I was estatic. It did start spreading out. But , i was dealing with Mirage and out in the Sun for about 8 hrs. cleaning and shooting.

I am at the five shot intervals per GAP break-in instructions.

Shooting from a clean barrel #1 shot shoots "off" a little more than 2,3,4,5.

This maybe a premature observation , but after three 5 shot groups, #2, 3, 4, 5 group tighter.

Is this typical?

You'll find that the barrel needs to be a little dirty to be consistent.

You'll hear people talk about Cold Bore shots vs Clean Cold Bore Shots and usually a clean barrel will shoot slightly different than one that has some copper fouling in it.

BTW I think you'll find most people here would quit with the break in and just enjoy shooting your rifle. You dont need the voodoo, just the trigger time.

What is the camo pattern on that stock? I'm having a hard time picking a finish on my next MCM stock...

Re: Nightforce mounted, break in started on the GAP

I have determined it is between a 1 in 11 to 1 in 11.5 Twist.

I used factory Federal Gold medal 168 BTHP

Probably 1 in 11 Correct?

Mirage was pretty bad , bench is wobbly. ( I think i am going to build one)

This was first 3 shots @100yds. Cleaned between each shot.

Second group 5 shots @100. Cleaned between first 4 shots diidnt clean on the 5Th.

Third group of 5 shots @100. never cleaned between shots.

Fourth group I shot 5 shots prone using the Bipod @ 236 yds.

Started with clean barrel, never cleaned between shots. I think I pulled on the 5Th shot.

I did about 7 years ago. I had the RCBS competition seating dies, Hornady single stage , Etc. etc... I also had a dillon 650 I used for handgun. I sold everything except for .50 bmg stuff.
I may have to do it again. i am keeping my Fire formed brass for the Gap. That always helps.

Re: Nightforce mounted, break in started on the GA

GAP gives a break in process because they got titred of people asking...but it is not needed.

Just shoot the fucker, she should settle in after a couple hundred rounds and be everything you ever hoped.

Congrats, enjoy it.

Re: Nightforce mounted, break in started on the GA

I noticed when i shot the rifle, The cheek piece had quite a bit of play after tightening the thumb screws. It is a good 1/8 in. back and forth movement. The whole assembly moves.

Is this typical or should it be tight?

I have seen no screws to tighten in the stock

Re: Nightforce mounted, break in started on the GA

I know on one of my McMillan stocks with a similar cheekpiece, there's a couple of bolts holding the cheekpiece to the adjustment assembly. With this you can move it left and right. You can see the 2 holes on the top of the cheekpiece that are used for tightening the bolts that attach to it. Could be your issue.

Also, over time if you use the same height adjustment, you should develop divots in the aluminum posts that make finding or elevation position easy and also it seems to be easier to get tighter over time. (This has been my experience with the saddle style cheekpiece though. It does have a similar system of thumb screws.)
