I'm picking up a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 with the NP-R2 reticle, and I have a couple of questions. First, how does this MOA reticle compare with a US Optics MOA Type 1? I have one of these reticles in an ST10, and I am curious if there is any real difference in the distance between the hash marks. I know my ST10 is marked in 10s, whereas the turrets on the NXS are 1-9. Any real difference between the two and estimating distance?

Also, what is the general consensus regarding this scope and reticle?

Re: Nightforce NXS 5.5-22x56 NP-R2 questions

The NP-R2 reticle is broken down into 2 MOA increments on the verticle (elevation) and 5 MOA on the horizontal. I find the 5 MOA horizontal to be too coarse for many things and therefore am not a fan of the reticle. If you don't shoot moving targets or hold off for wind, the reticle may be perfect for you.

I believe the MOA Type 1 is in 2 MOA increments throughout, which is more usable, IMHO. Another difference between the two reticles, is the NF is MOA and the USO is IPHY. I was going to order a scope with the Type 1 in it once, but changed reticle choice for a true MOA.

I just ordered the 5.5-22x56 with the NP-R1 the elevation is one MOA and the Windage is two MOA for finer adjustments and more accurate to measure distance
