Hi All,

I have an ar10 gas gun with a 308 upper and currently building a 6.5cm upper. Ever since having the rifle I've had a vortex viper 6.5-20x44 bdc scope that I'll be moving over to a 223 ar15 dmr. I have a 1k budget for an optic to share between my my 308 and 6.5cm upper. I ran across a potential buy of a nightforce NXS F1 3.5-15x50 ffp optic that is like new the owner is willing to sell for $1k to me only. Do you folks think this is a good deal? It has a Velocity 1000 LV.5 F1 Reticle.

I never really stretched the legs of the existing set up with vortex, 400 yards at most. But starting to get into longer distances and have access to a 1000 yards next month.

Should I pull the trigger or should I go with another option with higher magnification? I'm only looking to bang steal if I can up to 1000 yards and see what the rifle can do on paper at around 300 yards.

Thanks!

I'm a big proponent of Nightforce optics and mounts but I would pass on that deal. The 1000 LV.5 is a BDC reticle that may or may not match up to your load. For $1,000 there are some great options from Athlon, Vortex, and Burris that will meet your needs with some really great reticle options.

That reticle should match your 308 well, but won't work very well for the 6.5.

For that price, you could probably still flip it. They usually sell upwards of $1400 when in good condition.
