I am looking to get another 3.5-15 NF and was wondering if I could get some reticle guidance?

I am looking to use this scope on the range, varmint, and deer hunting. So anything from 30 yards out I guess. I currently have a 3.5-15 with the npr1 ret. I love it for long range but have problems loosing the ret inside 100 yards.

From what I have read I am thinking the npr2 would help with this problem? From what I understand this ret is a little thinker than the r1?

Was also considering mil-dot might have a little more mass to help pick it up.

Or maybe I'm missing one?

Thanks in advance

Dan

Re: Nightforce owners

Its not on your list but I just picked up a 5.5-22x50 with the NP-1RR reticle. Although I was concerned I wouldn't like it as others reviewed it as "too busy" I really like it. The ranging works well for 300 out to 800 on 9 and 18 inch targets. The circles represent 9 inches and the lines are 18 inch at the given distance. If you want furthur the 9 inch circles could double as 18 inch targets at double the distance so 600 800 1000 1200 1400 1600. Not the most accurate way to range at that distance but anything inside 1000 should be doable. Might be worth a look. Also have 4 and 8 MOA holdovers with finer point aiming for smaller targets if the center of the reticle covers too much of target.

Re: Nightforce owners

I lose the NPR-2 in close as well, especially when turned up to higher magnification. I have; however, found it to get better when I dial down the magnification and turn on the illumination.

Re: Nightforce owners

Might seem like a dumb question but have you set the scope up correctly?

The reticle should not be fuzzy unless its not setup right or your focusing extremely hard on the target behind the reticle.

You are right about this, I do have my issue when the mag is over 10 power. The best fix would probably be to set my mag at 6x when deer hunting and not touch it.

Re: Nightforce owners

Mildot is great but be aware it is Mil not MOA as your NPR1. Would effectively mean you would be running two scopes in two different setups.

Re: Nightforce owners

Dantrom, I have been wondering this exact thing. This year while hunting with my AR with the 2.5-10X32 NPR1, on a bright day the reticle seemed to wash out. The reticle is very thin, precise but thin. I think a thicker ret. would be better for hunting, or perhaps first focal plane. My 8-32X56, has the same reticle but I really haven't noticed it while shooting way out there. I thought about turning on the illumination on the 2.5-10 as lennyo3040 suggest above.

Re: Nightforce owners

Dantrom, turning on the illumination and seating the magnification around 4 or 6 is what I do for my 3.5x15. You may have to turn your illumination up or down depending on when you hunt the most. Hope this helps you out and good luck on your hunts.

Re: Nightforce owners

I have the NP-R1. I have found it to be picky about the side focus knob. When it is dialed just right the crosshairs are very sharp and black, so much that they usually stand out against a black background well.
