Just came back from a moose hunt and I used my 3.5-15x50 nightforce
have to tell you I am disappointed,
not of the scope but of the reticle
in the bush it useless I lost it mixed with all the branches must be to fine
on open terrain fine
they say on the 2.5-10x32 the reticle is a bit thicker
hope so I just ordered one before leaving on my moose hunt
would like a feedback from someone who has the 2.5-10x32 and went hunting with it
thank you.....

Re: nightforce reticle for hunting

I am not sure what caliber you are shooting? Likely something larger for elk and moose. I have the FC2 reticle in my 1-4 NXS. It works well for hunting. 5moa increments in this reticle, would have to see if it works out for your rifle. NF just come out with a velocity reticles designed for hunting. May have larger stadia lines on them. Give NF a call and ask for KEN PRATT. He is very patient and seems to know his optics well.
2.5-10 will be my next NF scope.

Re: nightforce reticle for hunting

Were u using the NP-R2 in the 3.5-15? With my 5.5-22s, when up close objects are in your field of view, the reticle gets lost easily at higher mag, especially if the parallax is not cranked all the way down. My dad has the 2.5-10x32 w/ mil dot reticle. The sight picture is much different than that of my 3 NXSs. The reticle does indeed appear a bit more chunky and darker. In addition, that scope has a fixed parallax, so I doubt you will have any issues with the reticle fading out.

Re: nightforce reticle for hunting

I have three NXS Compacts, two with the NP-1 and one with the NP-R2. Overall, I prefer the simplicity & visibility of the NP-1 for hunting...

Re: nightforce reticle for hunting

just got mine mounted on the 6x47L for my coyote, deer and antelope rifle.

Very happy with it ! Has the HV reticle and zero stop. Hold on 600 line and dial just a little more for further distances. Illumination is incredible, easy to adjust the brightness. Gonna be ordering 2 more !!

I do have the 2DD reticle in my bigger NXS scope. Excellent hunting reticle, brings eye to center very fast. Works well at night for spotlighting coyotes. Tapered bars are easy to see as well as center dot. Shaved about 1 pound off my hunting rig over the 3.5-15 NXS

Re: nightforce reticle for hunting

I go ahead a through in my 2 cents for logical thinking. I imagine your day hunting.

If I were you and the cross hairs were disappearing in the back ground do to foliage. I would remove my parallax adjustment knob and crank the illumination setting to the max or just short of. That way if my cross hairs were lost with all the back ground noise I could pop my parallax knob out thus turning on the illumination. And never lose my reticule during the day again.

I was thinking the same thing. I have done this and it works well. I have also observed that even on 3.5x you have to go about 15yds to pick it up. I don't think the np-r2 is a great brush reticle but I don't think it was designed with that in mind either. If I were taking a shot at less than 15yds I don't think I would bother looking through the scope.

using a NPR-1
thank you for info on the 2.5-10
will sleep better tonight

Re: nightforce reticle for hunting

my 2.5x10 I have their ballistic reticle that gives you marked lines on the reticle out to 600yds., very fast. On my 5.5x22's I have NPR2's and Mildots. I like the thicker mildot better for hunting, easier to see.

That is a sweet looking scope.I am in the (expensive!!) process of switching all of my optics over to NF.NF is just an outstanding product that is basically bombproof and priced right. The 2.5-10x32 that I'm eyeballing is going on a Knights Armament,U.S.M.C issue MK11 MOD1 that KAC released to the public.Actually, they released only 40 of em to the public,so 39 other people plus me have one of these rifles!!! This optic in a one piece KAC mount should perform and look quite nice!!! I'll post pics when I get it all set up.(most likely after New Years!)

Re: nightforce reticle for hunting

Here is Nightforce's marketed "Big Game hunting" reticle. It's labeled NP-1

Interesting and possible very effective.

Re: nightforce reticle for hunting

Just used 2.5-10x32 and the 2.5-10x24 for elk hunt. They are perfect hunting scopes: size, weight, clarity, light gathering, and magnification range. The illuminated reticle comes in handy early morning and late evening...right when you will end up shooting. The reticle is fine: I use standard Mil-Dot. My only complaint is the short battery life on the illumination.
