I posted some of this before, but as The Beast was not released at Shot Show, I thought some SH members would find it interesting.

There is tremendous detail on The Beast, check Google Patents:

Much of that was changed, that is like Gen 3, they are up to almost Gen 5 now... and the version being released is different, they have more of an NXS version coming out.

That is more like a foundation vs a finished house

Pish posh!! What is this mystical "beast" you speak of?? It's purely myth and legend like fairy dust and unicorns. I once thought I caught a glimps of this "beast" being carried by a drunken leprechaun, but to my dismal dismay it turned out only to be a Bulschitte Optics 3-35x70.

I love my F-1, but have given up on Nightforce ever coming out with a higher mag FFP scope. It has been talked about in back room wispers for at least 2 years.

HEY!!! you save that for a membership... (although it shouldnt be as much as a NF)

So the Gen 5 well have less of the levers/external controls. That sounds much better, less to become damaged.

Most of what you see in that drawing was changed to some degree.

And you are missing the fact there are more than one versions of that scope, that is the foundation for the high end scope, and not the consumer version.

Think of that as the test bed, kitchen sink model.

I've seen both and it's not exactly what is in that crude drawing. What you are looking at is a bit exaggerated so it can be visualized easier. On the optic it is different.

Re: Nightforce "The Beast" drawings and design

One thing I'm getting out of diving into the verbage and said pieces heretofor untos, is on the "Description of the Preferred Embodiment(s)" section which says:

"During operation, the chisel point 114 extends outward and engages the splines. In the preferred embodiment, the splines are sufficient in quality and spacing so that one rotation of the coarse dial 120 equals 120 minutes."

I'm not sure if that means for every 360 degree turn of the elevation knob the "high speed" goes 720 degrees (thinking of 60 minutes as a complete circle like in a clock face so 120 min = 720 degrees) like high speed turrets, OR does it mean NF is trying to make this scope with an elevation range of 120 moa?

The main innovation I see when reading is NF wants the ability to have the ability to manipulate the scope by 1moa clicks AND 1/4moa clicks at the flip of a switch.
