Re: Nikon 12x42 Monarch ATB - yes or no..
Thanks for your responses. I pulled the trigger on the 12x42 Nikon Monarch ATB's in black (actually, they're a very dark charcoal type green color) and could not be happier. I've not really ever been into these types of optics, but I looked at many brands, and for my eyes, these things are amazing! I also replaced the objective lens caps with a set of Butler Creek #31 flip-up caps which are an instant improvement over what came with the binos. I plan on using these out west as well as vacations, hunting, etc. so I chose a higher power model, and I'm glad that there was one available in this price range. Suprisingly, the "sale" online on the Cabela's website was $309.00, but the store had them on
"sale" for $289.00!! Still could have found them cheaper online elsewhere, but I wanted to use the gift card that I had on an optic. I also considered the Leupold Acadia 10x42's, but found them to be a little more dark and more importantly, I did not like the functionality of the diopter adjustment - it just didn't seem to me like it would hold up under adverse conditions like ice and snow. As I mentioned, the Butler Creek flip-ups are a welcome addition to these outstanding binos! The Cabela's website has over 323 positive user reviews on this particular model giving it a 4.5 out of 5, and now I see why. For the money, these have proven themselves successful since their introduction. I highly recommend them for my fellow Hiders who may be considering a mid-grade quality pair of binos from Nikon!
