I'm looking online and I see that imported models are a lot cheaper. Is there any difference in between the USA model and imported? The reason I'm asking is that I just bought a d5000 for 699 with a 18-55mm vr lens, and you can buy them online (same lens and body) + a 55-200mm vr for $649 and free shipping.

Re: Nikon question?

Depending who the importer is. A Nikon camera sold through Nikonusa is warranted through the US Nikon network. An imported (AKA Grey market) is warranted by the importer.

Nikonusa warranty.

For the additional cost we purchase piece of mind.

Re: Nikon question?

I have owned both US and grey market models of Nikon Cameras. My biggest issue with grey market is that getting a software upgrade for the camera body is virtually impossible. This is not to mention importers warranties, in general, suck. If something serious goes wrong or breaks you are going to either have to replace or spend seriour $ to fix.

If you ever intend to upgrade down the road the grey market items don't resale for nearly as much.

My personal opinion is stick with the US models for camera bodies and lenses. It will pay off in the future.
