has anybody used the 3-12 nikon ar scope, say,on a 308. i like the weight, power range and have been pleased with the nikons i own. i am comparing them to the 4-16 monarch mildot for a new 308. the ar bdc is a bit different from the standard nikon bdc (which i don't like at all). 1" tube and SF are big wants. optics on ar vs monarch? i know the optics on leupold ar are abut same as vx 2 (got that form factory) so that is the meaning of my optical quality question. thanks for any input.

Re: nikon scope question

Mike, I had a M-223 3-12x42 BDc on my DPMS LR-308 for a while then I moved it to a new .223. The BDC functioned great for the .308 in fact I made one of my best shot's on a deer ever using this same rifle. I recently put on a Monarch 4-16 BDC and love the way it shoot's. Obviously using Nikon's Spot On Ballistic Program allow's me to dial in my ammo to the scope and rifle thus enhancing my accuracy. As I just returned from Shot Showin Las Vegas I can tell you the due to somany folks asking for it, Nikon Debuted a M-308 Rifle Scope. 4-16x42 in Both BDC and Rapid Action Turret. Nikon also came out with a M-223 Scope in 4-16 also. Both of these scopes will not ship until the middle of the year I am told.
Below is a pic of my 76 year old Father In-Law shooting my .308. He said he didn't like it but still shot over 100 rounds at stell plates and I don;t think he missed 1 time. The smile on his face after giving him a full mag kind of made me think maybe he was fibbing a bit about his displeasure!

Re: nikon scope question

hey thanks barton.might be worth waiting for! the gun is a tikka 595 match in 308 i got at a show "used". it's never been shot. the guy had a 6-18 simmons stuck on it. why bother? if it works at all,i may leave it and wait for new stuff to hit the vendor's shelves. looked at the 3-15 minox. worried about mounting length.

Re: nikon scope question

Im waiting on an X Bolt in 7mm WSM for my 4-16x42 BDC. Gonna be an awesome setup. I have used that scope on a 308 X Bolt and thats why Im ordered one. At a shoot we shot targets from 100-550yds using the Nikon Bdc and Spot On software. The winning team was deadly with that setup. You won't be let down with the system.

Re: nikon scope question

thanks. i have been a bit reluctant re the nikon bdc. worried that the little circles would not be precise and that the circle thing would be a distraction. you say,not so,re paper shoots. i see that it would work hunting. have to look at it again and consider it.

Re: nikon scope question

Dollar for dollar Nikons are one of the best bangs for the buck. They have come a long way over the past few years with the new software and reticles. I thought the same thing that the BDC would obsure targets or make if difficult to find the center. I was wrong and slowly I changing all my hunting rifles to BDC. Dont get me wrong I love my Zeiss,NF, and Swarovski but there is a place for everything.
