    The land of many waters
I have 2 Rem 700 actions that I will be getting nitrided by h&m and I would like to know what work I need to get done on the actions before they are nitrided. Doing a remage on both so a full truing that recuts the threads is out of the question.

Larger bolt handle, upgrade to 8x40 screws, and clean up the lugs? Weld the bolt handle on?

    Thanks guys in advance

By the time you do all this work and coatings you could have bought a Bighorn Origin and it will be an all around better action...

    But you asked, so..

    PTG One Piece bolt
    8-40 screws
    True receiver face
    True lug abutments
    Aftermarket recoil lug
    Side Bolt Release
    Primary Extraction
    Then do your nitride..

Take this from someone that has done everything stated above and would never do it again. You'll save money and have a better product just getting an Origin...

If you were gonna true a 700 I would just get one of the regular rems that are remage friendly trued for 400 like from northland or whoever it is in the px offering them right now. Doing anything else to it makes the delta between a rem and a bighorn too small to ignore.

You don't need most of that stuff. Get the handle Tig'ed and timed, and get the actions coated. Or call LRI and have them tune them up and barrel them, with a top quality blank. You will still be in them for less than a custom action. I believe the last two they did for me were 6-700, to true the action, tig and time the bolt, thread the bolt handle, fit the barrel, add heavy duty lug, thread the muzzle and cerkote the BA. So those were ready to go BA for the cost of a custom action.

Your off by over $300 for the LRI services mentioned. To have LRI do exactly what you stated above costs $1044.00 and that DOES NOT include the barrel blank itself so add another $300-$360 depending on what blank you go with. Plus add the cost of the Rem700 action itself ($250 on the very low end), plus the cost of your Rem700 scope base ($100).....You are now into that Rem700 BA for around $1700 on the low end to be barreled and ready to go drop in your stock/chassis of choice....

Here's a screenshot of LRI cart to do only the services you stated above.....Remove the cerakote and your still at $785 + add the cost of a barrel blank.. This action still wont be as nice as the Origin, or hold resale value like the Origin. You do all the work, and you loose your ass when you decide to upgrade cause its still a Rem700.

Brand new Origin in the PX in the last 2 days for $785.00.... Screw on prefit with a Bighorn nut for $400 and your now into a custom BA for under $1200... Have a cut rifled shouldered barrel put on it and you still are into it for less $1485.00...

Go to the link on their Snipershide group buy, on the group buy page, and it costs 699 as machined, but I added fluting the bolt. I must have coated the last one myself. 884 with cerakote. Yep, plus a 300 dollar blank, sounds like he has the actions in hand. I know what I would do.
