Should I stick with it or hang up my wood burner?

Thanks
Feels great, range time will tell all though. Funny as it sounds I think it will help more with the puny, slippery P22 than the .45

Trey, stippling is done in effort to increase the texturized surface areas or to add texture where there is none, giving more traction and positive grip. Its done to user preference, some offer their skills for a modest price too. I've seen A2 pistol grips grinded smooth like A1's then completely stippled out..

Re: No longer a virgin to stippling(pics)

I don't think any plastic gun I get from here out will go without this treatment. It makes the guns so damn sticky that I swear I could let go and they would stick to may hand. I may have to knock down some of the "beavertail" stippling on the XD, not sure if it's going to rub the web of my thumb raw yet. I am going to put some rounds down range this weekend adn report back with the results.

ETA, does anyone know of any quality smooth polymer 1911 grips?

Great, now you've got me thinking. They're not smooth, but I may try out stippling my ERGO hard grips!

Just a tip for everyone-don;t inhale the smoke when you are doing this-it WILL make your chest nasty!!!

Re: No longer a virgin to stippling(pics)

So how is this done. Can it be done to metal. You mentioned wood burner so you just randomly plunge it in I take it or is there a pattern you can follow. Looks good. Its got me thinking that's for sure.

Re: No longer a virgin to stippling(pics)

I drew a rough outline of what I wanted with a pencil and filled it in randomly. Used a wood burner with a small pointed tip. Metal can be done with a good sharp punch and hammer.

Re: No longer a virgin to stippling(pics)

Yup, can be done on metal-practice on junk prior to something you like! I also do it with a blunted punch on any wood stocks that I have.

I use a soldering iron with 1/8" tip on polymer.

Be random, yet even and watch th edges. No mark or marks outside of where you want them is what makes a good job poor.....

Got to the range today. ALL of my plastic pistols will get the burn from here on out. The beavertail on the XD did not rub my raw, but I'm a mechanic with hands of leather YMMV. On a side note: The above pictured P22 is an '05 model that I got used. The damn thing has never run right with HV or SV ammo. After following some info in the P22 Bible(google it). I put 250 Fed bulk rounds through it today without a single malfunction. No cleaning or adding lube. I really like the little shooter.

Got any pics of your custom tip?
Phylodog, how about your tips? and I'm not talking about "that" tip.

I just got a Glock RTF2, I did the underside of the trigger guard and the left frame flat. Not sure yet if I need(want) to do the grip on this gun. I would like to see some other patterns and the tips that make them.

Re: No longer a virgin to stippling(pics)

Phylodog,
I looked at a lot of different stippling smiths on the net before I put one of my guns under the knife. I gotta say you have some of the tightest, cleanest lines around.
