I just received my B&C A2 stock today. I know it had the alum bedding, but I thought it was a V style, this just tries to keep the contour of the action.

I kinda wish I went with the Choate stock now. at least that was a V design, I think I would have benefited from that design instead.

am I wrong to assume that?

Re: No V-bed on the B&C?

It's fine. Bolt it down and run it for a hundred rounds or more and when you pull it apart you'll see two distinct lines going down the edges of the receiver where it is making contact with the aluminum block; essentially accomplishing the exact same thing as a more pronounced v-block design.

Re: No V-bed on the B&C?

I think the BC design is good. I never shot mine unbedded, but my Savage 10FP in a bedded BC stock shoots between 1/4 and 1/2 MOA, whereas it did right at 1 MOA in its OEM injection molded plastic cheapie.

To bed it in, I just roughed up the aluminum with some 60 grit paper, waxed up the action, mixed up some quality epoxy (I used HySol from Loctite corp), and applied a light skim coat to the block. Screwed it together and waited 24 hours. I'd highly recommend you do the same.

Re: No V-bed on the B&C?

One problem I ran into with an aftermarket B & C stock was that the recoil lug did not come up against the Alum. block.
After I bedded the recoil lug, the accuracy really came out.
My 5R that came with a Factory H & S stock with Alum bedding block fit like a glove, and was very accurate without being bedded.

One thing I did notice with mine is that the bolt handle touches the stock. I've sanded it down some to clear it but it's still really close. That's with an SPS Tactical. Anyone else have that problem?

Re: No V-bed on the B&C?

taseal, my first B&C had the smooth, rounded bedding block. My second one (and later purchased) had a smaller radiused cut in the bottom of the block. It basically served like a V block in the fact that where the 2 radiuses met it produced a point that it contacted the action. (This is basically explaining what 71firebird400 said) I never shot the second one unbedded, so I can't comment on the unbedded accuracy. In the bedded state, I've shot some 3 shotters as small as 1/8 MOA @ 100, but usually she stays between 1/4 and 1/2 MOA all the way out to 400 (haven't shot past 400 yet).

Skeld1, mine rubbed on the bolt handle too. I never tried sanding that inlet down any, but it never gave me any problems either. As long as the bolt handle is touching the side of the action when fully closed, I don't see how it could be a problem. The underside of my bolt handle has a line where it is contacting the action. Check yours. If it has this line, even if ever so faint, it's completely down and I wouldn't think twice about it.

Re: No V-bed on the B&C?

I'm pretty certain the bolt is closing all the way, I was more concerned with it interfering with the action in some way to reduce accuracy. I don't know if that is a concern or not...I'm new at this to be honest. Kind of sucks having to sand it since it rubs the finish off but you can't really tell when the bolt is closed anyway.

Re: No V-bed on the B&C?

If the bolt is closing all the way, it's not interferring in any way. Hey man, everybody was new at this sooner or later. I've only been in the precision game for around 2 years and reloading not even a year. As for the finish, my stocks were black. I took a felt tip black Sharpie and colored in where I sanded, especially in the barrel channel where I free-floated it. Anyways, I let the sharpie ink sit on there for 30 mins or so. Then, I took some rubbing alcohol on a paper towel and just rubbed it. It took the excess off while leaving the stock still black. If you have a green or tan stock, I'd say Wally World has those colors too.

Re: No V-bed on the B&C?

Ah good point. Didn't even think of a colored marker. That would probably look a little better than the bare fiberglass. And yes mine is the green finish.

Re: No V-bed on the B&C?

I would give the B&C stock a run. I found that it really tightened up my groups quit a bit compared to the factory stock. I bolted it in and started shooting. No bedding needed.

Hi guys, I'm BRAND new here. 1st post. Been lurking just trying to learn what people have to offer. I have an A2 stock coming for my Model 10 FP-SR and I'm really glad to hear the encouraging reviews. It shoots about 3/4 MOA now with the "rubbermaid" stock.

Iron Brigade Armory modifies Aluminum Bedding Block stocks (Bell and Carlson/ HS Precision) for their rifles as well as a accurizing service for customers with this type stock. Give them a call and see what they say.
