The Nobel Peace Prize was just awarded and, call me ignorant, but I wasn't aware of this connection:

RWS | Rottweil: A Nobel prize for ammunition

I'm not trying to lay any political bait. Whoever was awarded the NPP, this past week or in the past, is not what I care about, or am trolling for comments on or about - it's just the dynamite/RWS/RUAG ammo connection, FWIW, that I thought would be interesting to post up here in the Bear Pit....

That 'prize' has been an epic joke since they awarded it to that fail of a president we have for actions they were HOPING he'd take.

It is funny though that Nobel was an ammo manufacturer. Probably had a different idea of ways to bring about 'peace' in his mind :)

Actually he was inventor of dynamite and from this invention he got the $$$ and ability for retards to decades later pervert what he intented to be a reward for bettering the human kind.

Nitroglycerin is unstable and tough to transport, handle and use hence when mixed with absorbing material it becomes a lot more stable and usable - dynamite. It can be used to build or to destroy, Nobel thought the first use was noble and i guess in old age with all that money thought of giving it back to the people. I find it curious you're not schooled on this in schools as its a prime example of use of science for good and also how something as violent as explosives can bring a lot of good to humankind. Prime example that its the person/use and not the tool/object that causes good/bad.

Correct, and in a strange twist of fate, when his brother died and a French newspaper mistakenly published an obituary on him as the "merchant of death" it gave Alfred Nobel a different perspective on what his legacy could be. So he amended his will so that the bulk of his assets would go to form the Nobel Prizes. And yes, this is something I remember learning in school - some just forget, I suppose.

Yep, building the Hoosic Tunnel in Massachusetts it was quite common for workers to be returned home to their family in bushel baskets after working with nitro glycerin. Nobel thought his product would be betterment for man kind. He realized the possible military uses of TNT but like Gatling the thought was that this would make war so terrible people would be loathe to actually engage.

I remember in grade school when Nobels were given out I thought "My God what a high honor." Its a joke now. That Malala chick seems to deserve it.
