Thanks for being patient with a Noob like me! A few years ago a friend of mine died, and I sold his weapons for his widow. She let me have one for my trouble at a very reduced price, and I bought this FN 30-11. I helped my friend buy this rifle in the early 90's and it had a flimmer band and anschutz peep sights on it. My buddy had the EAW schwenkmontage (swing mounts) and the scope installed by some gunmaker somewhere. I haven't really done much with the rifle, other than run a hundred or so rounds of S&B match through it once a year.
Before all the ranges shut down, I took it a few times to our 400 meter range in Baumholder, and it does OK, but the adjustments don't really match up to the match ammo. With NATO ball it could be considered "Generally described as relatively non-inaccurate".
But my question is: Does anyone have any idea what kind of scope this is, or any history behind it. It is labelled Combat Systems, and I cannot find any info on it on the internet and I do speak fluent German. I am assuming it came out sometime in the late seventies, as it has an illuminated reticle, by way of inserting a AA battery into the removable tube, and switching on a little 1.5 volt filament bulb, which shines light into a little window to illuminate the reticle. With a strong battery, it reflects all around inside the tube as well.
I know the EAW rings and bases are definitely aftermarket items, but was wondering if anyone knew anything at all on the history or pedigree of the scope. I'm going to give the rifle a second chance, and would like to know if the scope is worth investing any time with. I may remark the adjustment ring for another load unless the scope is considered valuable. Personally, I have been shooting for about 40 years, and have never seen one like this, or heard of one, but it is amazingly clear, and well built.
Thanks.
