I am curious as to what you men consider to be an acceptable amount of windage and elevation adjustment needed to sight in a scope, 5moa, 10moa, etc.? Assuming the scope is mechanically centered to start with.

Also, how much adjustment to zero have you found to be typical when sighting in a production rifle?

Re: Normal Adjustment to Zero

I think it depends on how high or low the scope is mounted above the bore. One scope I mounted was high and I had to turn up the elevation quite a bit. On another that was mounted much lower, I had to turn down the elevation like 7-8 clicks. I could be wrong...

Re: Normal Adjustment to Zero

I am not using a canted base, and I have accounted for the 1.6" that my scope is above the bore. When doing initial sighting at 25yds I ignore any bullet drop. I got that stuff under control (I think).

I am really trying to find out what people have found to be typical as far as scope-bore misalignment. And what they would consider to be acceptable.

What rifle, base, and scope? Did you boresight it? You said 25yds is it a 22lr, or a pellet rifle? Can you zero it? Most of us don't worry about it unless it uses up all the elevation or windage. Then you'd be looking for problem.

Re: Normal Adjustment to Zero

The rifle is a savage 10 in 6.5 Creedmoor, I bought a badger ordnance 20moa base for is but that's when I run out of elevation adjustment. Using the factory bases on the rifle with a mechanically centered scope, impacts are 2" high and 2" left at 25yds. So if I factor in the hieght of the scope above the bore I am getting 15moa of elevation and 8moa of windage misalignment between scope and bore. And when the 20moa rail is mounted the windage doubles to about 16moa but the elevation stays the same as far as I can tell with the cant and all.

So I guess that's kinda nice that I have a 15moa cant built into the rifle as it were, but it bothers me that I am looking that far out from the center of the glass for windage.

I have never taken note of how much adjustment it took to zero on my hunting rifles. So when I was setting this one up for long range practical shooting I was expecting it to be almost perfectly lined up to begin with and was a little disappointed.

Re: Normal Adjustment to Zero

newbie here,

on most of my rifles that have optics on them, they have taken less than 10 clicks of adjustment so around 5moa at the most.
