North GA Noob to Longer Range Shooting

Hello from North Georgia (more Atlanta metro area).

I finally have the time (and lets face it, money) to experiment with some longer range shooting I have been wanting to do for ages. It also helps a new range opened up near me that has steel out to 900 yards. I am currently building up an AR-10 in .308 to this end, and already have a bolt gun in the same caliber.

Been lurking while waiting on my account to be approved, but there is a lot of knowledge and information available here for someone new. I look forward to expanding my shooting skills into this new envelope.

There was the North Georgia Wildlands Club outside of Athens, but they had to close down about 6 months ago. Something about the landlord not wanting to renew their lease of the property. Quite a shame, really.

Rats, that’s sucks. Thank you. Have you found anywhere new? I’m new to GA coming from FT Bragg in NC where there was hardly anywhere to shoot. There is even less where I’m at in GA

I'm also new and in north Ga.... about 2 hours north of Atlanta in the mountains. Longer ranges are slim up here. The few ranges that do have some space are private clubs with long waiting list for membership. There are a few shoots open to the public, but I have never been able to make it to one ( even as a spectator )
