So I'm fortunate enough to live close enough to Nosler that I'm down by it every month or so for work. Last week when I was down I picked up 250rnds of Nosler Custom brass factory seconds which apparently have a visual imperfection (which I am unable to find on any of them) and was wondering what you're experience with it has been. Do i need to load a little lass hot when using that compared to say Federal brass? Visually it's really nice stuff, but I dont know load wise what to do with it. Thanks for the help!

Re: Nosler Custom brass quesrtions...

I don't personally use it, but I've loaded some rounds for my VP at work using their brass. Based on uniforming primer pockets, its feels soft. Pretty much as soft as Federal. I don't know how it will perform. I did like how they weights sort, trim, chamfer and deburr before shipping. Really basic brass prep before loading.

I use it, love it and recommend it. The case capacity is just a little less than Winchester, and will be fine for normal published load data.

Re: Nosler Custom brass questions...

I believe that Nosler has used more than one vendor in the past... at one point they told me Norma, don't know who it is now, but with regard to Federal 300WM brass, the old stuff was identical (why I called, wanted to know if Fed. was making it for them). Bought some over a year later and weight was over 20 gr. different and not *nearly* as consistent. When I called again and asked, they would not tell me who made it then.

Anecdotally, quality has been spotty. Not nearly the reputation of Lapua, Norma or RWS.

Re: Nosler Custom brass questions...

I used a bunch in a match grade m14. I was very impressed. My m14 usually destroys brass but, the Nosler 308 brass held up very well through 4 reloads which is all I ever try out of an m14. As Chad already said, the case capacity was just slightly less than Winchester.

Re: Nosler Custom brass questions...

Nosler comp brass in 308 is great, I like the fact its ready to load without dressing up the necks or reaming flash holes. on the other hand nosler 260 rem brass has been disappointing .

+1 this has been my experience as well in a 300 rum

Re: Nosler Custom brass questions...

I have a very particular issue with a good bit of one box of 204 Ruger brass I just bought.

On about 20% of them, there is a huge (relatively huge anyways) bend in the case mouth. Not inwards or outwards (making the mouth out of round), but down making what looks almost like a notch in the mouth.
