Looking at buying some bulk 168gr Nosler Custom Competition bullets, I've used these before and they have done great. I just want to get another opinion on how they have performed for you guys. Would probably be using IMR 4350 for now, it is what I have at the moment and the budget doesn't have any room to buy large quantities of powder since I am completely switching systems to the 308. Thanks guys!

Re: Nosler Custom Competition

They perform right up there with the SMK, the NOScc are closer in weight tolerance, but will vary in meplat length. All in all the results are negligible in avg steel and target shooting. The good thing is they usually run about $5 cheaper than the SMK.

Re: Nosler Custom Competition

Great info guys! I've used them on my old 30-06 and they worked well, was just questioning if it was worth it to pay for the SMK or these. Looks like I'll be going with the Noslers.

Re: Nosler Custom Competition

I haven't shot 168 Noslers but can vouch for the 69 & 77 gr .223, 140 gr 6.5mm, and 175 gr .308s. I've shot thousands of them over the last two years, they do everything that Sierra's traditionally did for me for less money.

Re: Nosler Custom Competition

I bought two 1,000 round boxes on my last order from Powder Valley. Hard to pass up at $0.21 per round (at the time).

In my .308 they do pretty good and in my 30-06 they're great.

My .308 5R Milspec seems to do best with 44.4gr Varget, Win Brass, Wolf Primer, and 2.800" OAL. 1/2MOA at 300 yards.

They do have rather ragged meplats but no worse than the SMK's. Trimming the meplats doesn't seem to be worth the effort on ranges less than 400+ yards and for now my range is limited to 300 yards so I don't bother.

A 21 cent J-4 Jacketed bullet is tough to turn down.

Re: Nosler Custom Competition

How about the consistency when comparing to these brand?

Lapua 167gr Scenar
Hornady 168gr BTHP
Hornady 168gr Amax
Sierra 168gr SMK
Berger 168gr BTHP

My CCs have been right on par with the above and slightly better than the SMK.

I don't think they are J-4 jacketed anymore. They are making their own bullet jackets now.

They fit a niche just as Berger's fit a niche, I get to practice more with the CC Customs.

Re: Nosler Custom Competition

They have worked great for as fair as I could throw them super-sonic, like the smk they sometimes will handle the transition and other times not. But it is a great bullet for 800 and closer at 308 velocity.
