I have a Rem 700 with the factory 26" varmint taper barrel in .308. It shoots well, and it's favorite loads for are 185 Bergers. I am waiting on a form 4 for a new can, and I want to get it threaded. I am going to get the barrel shortened when I get it threaded and I need some advice. I don't know how short to have it cut to. I have read that 20"-22" is optimal for the .308, but I don't know if shortening it will cause stabilization issues. I'm concerned with the 185's and the 1:12 twist. They stabilize great now, and are very accurate, but I'm not so sure it will be that way if I get 6" lopped off. I definitely don't want a baffle strike. I guess I could work up another load for it, but I have tons of these bullets and like their accuracy and terminal performance. What do y'all think??
