but in it's day, it was probably as close to a sniper rifle as could be made. It should be here on Monday.

58 caliber? I've got a 58 cal navy and a 45 cal with heavy octagon barrel. They are fun. I'd like to getbsome period correct target sights and see what they are capable off.
Look forward to seeing more pictures

So, did it get here yet? I'm going to guess by looking at the breach block it's a M-1866 in 50-70? I can't blow up your image to tell for sure. It Isn't 45-70 and I'm pretty sure it isn't .58 RF(There weren't very many) More info Please? I love Trapdoors, but my only 1866 is a lamp.

The Sioux sure thought they were facing sniper rifle or something really special anyway when they were getting shot at from behind wagon boxes.

    Cool!
I have a pair of M-1873's that in the 5000 serial number range, which means that they were built the 3rd week of the 3rd month of the first full year of production.
BTW, I would be in the market for US M-1873 serial# 5725 if anybody knows where it is.

I forgot to mention S&S Firearms should have a repro cleaning rod for it.
