So after much thought and even more concern I put a stop payment on a check today for a $1700+ purchase from another member, whom did in fact call me yesterday, saying he was mailing the items and would provide me a tracking number, but only after I posted on his for sale thread that I was still awaiting a phone call that never came. As you could guess I have not received the confirmation that this shipped as promised.
What finally scared me enough, is when he closed the thread, I think yesterday! I don't understand why, but I guess one could say he was still getting contacted about the items he had for sale, but at any rate, I don't agree with closing an active thread until all transactions are complete, my .02.
Included in this same thread, another member is in a similar boat as I, and thru our communication up to yesterday, he has not received a confirmation number either. I have not communicated with the this other member today and I am awaiting a response from my PM to him to see if he ever did receive any shipping confirmation.
At any rate, I have some other reasons for concern that I wont get into entirely at this point, and the particulars in case this ends up being on the up and up, as well as it could become quit laborious to lay out things as they happened, but what this post is about, is saying, that I owe this money, and if in fact he did ship the items I will pay for them, and need and want them. I am fully aware that things happen and there could be many reasons for this to be delayed but as I said there are other reasons that made me feel this way.
My time and more so my reputation here on the Hide are a valued source to me, but I feel that I need to protect myself due to the lack of prompt accurate communication.
Consider this post my proactive "I OWE HIM MONEY" post if he indeed did ship my items, I will feel like a schmuck and will promptly get him paid, but with two of us not having tracking info, I had to do what I had to do.
Please do not ask for his information as I "DO NOT" feel that would be fair, at this point, to make another member look bad if indeed it is due to some circumstance that was not avoidable and could be easily corrected.

Thanks for your time, and I hope this post ends up being a non issue, and my items are in transit, but at this very moment, I am very uncomfortable with the above mentioned lack of information.
Thanks, Dave

Update, I was just advised by the other SH member his purchase has arrived double boxed, no tracking number was ever provided to the other member, nor have I received a tracking number at the time of this post. I'll continue to update and take the appropriate action to make things right.

The seller may not have realized that marking the thread SOLD automatically closes it. It's not always abundant;y clear to some how that works in the software.

thx tucker, I hope that is all that he had done.
Im going to bed, my 89 year old dads AC went out and I have been there for the last 4 hours pulling the fan motor and gotta wait til the morning, Im beat. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day along with a package showing up. I really need some good news about right now.

dave300,

I was following the original thread, and from the outside looking in it appeared that the seller was trying to maintain contact and respond to PMs. He'd apparently gone out of town for a weekend. You've obviously done a bunch of deals here, so I respect your take on how a deal went down and whether or not things are "kosher". I hope things work out for both of y'all.

i do alot of buyin and selling here. if you cant be johnny on the fuckin spot with comms especially on a big purchase, say so up front. nothing pisses me off worse then slow and sloppy comms. i make it my mission to convey exactly whats happening with someones item or payment to someone ricky tic. its just good business and i guess not all see it that way.

I'm with you man. I know you and I have both done easily twice as many transactions as we have feedback for. I was watching an item on the thread in question, and the seller notified guys he was going out of town and when he'd be back. He then notified each guy that he'd responded to their PMs. The OP requested a call and the seller responded that he'd call him.

Both parties have been around a while. I respect dave300 's ability after the deals he's done to know when something ain't right. I sincerely hope that it was just a case of an item going out without notification and that it has a happy ending. We spend WAY too much money here for any of us to start running into issues of not getting our shit. I've been lucky thus far.

Out of respect to dave I obviously won't post the thread, but if you haven't found it yet send me a PM so you can judge the "feel" of the thread for yourself.

thanks you guys, I feel the same way about prompt communication, if this SH thing is to work, the communication is a must! It is nice to be understood, The Hide is a valued asset to me and my reputation is important, hence the original post saying I owe for the items if all works out. I PM'd the OP telling him what I had done, and why yesterday, and have not heard from him at the time of this writing. Thanks again guys, our support is appreciated, Ill update as things progress. Off to chase an AC fan motor in 100 degree temps, and yep, the unit is on the roof. Dave

Yesterday evening silence was broken and I was provided a tracking number, it appears it was actually shipped on Monday as promised, according to the tracking receipt, Monday delivery is the scheduled delivery date, but you know how slow the usps site is to update. I made the trek to the bank to undo the stop pymt and really hoping this is as it appears. Update once I receive the items. Thanks

Update, yesterday (monday) my scope and rings arrived. I have reissued another check today (tuesday) after a failed attempt to re-release the original stop payment in time. I will avoid any commentary on how I would like any deal/transaction to take place as there is not any real guidelines. Lets just say I was real nervous, but after my package arriving last night, it appears it was for not. Thanks all!

if this SH thing is to work, the communication is a must!

I find that to be an interesting comment.

It works as it was designed to work. The buy-sell-trade forums are nothing more than another version of Craigslist.
Each buyer and seller must do their due diligence before, during, and after the transaction, which exactly why poor communications can make anyone nervous.

The site doesn't oversee transactions, and the owner has no recourse against criminals or bad dealers other than to provide law enforcement with information and to ban people who are proven to be no good.
It's a conduit, not a regulated marketplace.
