scope is 5.5x22 56mm
tube is 30 mm.
scope is going on an armalite 308 AR10.

I have heard you want the scope as close to barrel w/o touching for better accuracy. Is this true? Should I be looking at medium height rings? also what are some good rings out there. thanks?
I will try to upload a pic of the gun for reference. thanks again

Most standard flat top ARs are mated best with 1.4-1.5" rings. Taller rail models like the HK and POF are about 0.25" taller and mate well with 1.125-1.25" rings.

56mm bell needs at least about 1.25" to clear the flat top.

I like moving my scopes around a bunch cause I get bored, so I went with a 0.4" Badger Ordnance riser w 20MOA and used 0.92" Seelins rings. Most people prefer 1 piece mounts.

make sure your scope doesn't come with rings, before you buy my F1 had rings.

with an AR its hard to put a cheek riser on. so you need your ring height to match your head.

Accuracy isn't affected by ring height if your range is known.

If its close to the bore and you shoot at a close target (less than your zero) you wont be off as much. but I would just stick to a good cheek weld and work from there

so you think the medium size (1.00 inch) rings wont all room for the bell?

If the AR10 has a continuous rail, you will need a minimum height of 1.375" to clear the 56mm objective. I prefer 1.5".

Due to the straight line stock design of the AR platform, a lower mounting height is detrimental.
