Largest "challenge" now is multiple data centers across the country, placed on different power grids, many strategically placed close to power plants, one in particular that is right across the street from a plant in rural Central Texas. The power strategy is still dual power train, battery ups with diesels or in some cases combustion turbines. They have placed many of the new data centers in locations that will see rapid transmission and distribution restoration in the case of an event.
You'll notice however that these big cloud companies keep having these "outages" where somebody running a configuration job causes something unexpected and services are down or severely hampered across the globe or a big area for some time...

The issue I see with keeping any service safe and redundancy is human laziness. From the unrealistic deadlines, to the local municipality to the greedy GC who subs out to unqualified slackers to the guy sitting in a chair listening for the chiller alarm. People , by and large, are lazy and half ass their plan for emergencies because shit is sunny day engineered during to laziness and greed.
The people who see these weaknesses and bring them up are dismissed as alarmists or glad handed and ignored.
There is no fixing the human condition in the soft world we live in. Wonder if Fuckerburg has access to drones?
