Noveske gas port hole Diameter?

Re: Noveske gas port hole Diameter?

Goose375-
Thanks for your service.

I just spoke with Joel at Noveske. He doesn't know the port hole diameter, but had a few bits of info:

(1) the diameter of the port hole is standard and will work with any gas block of correct size (on the 18" 308, it takes a 0.875" block, not the 0.75").
(2) he does not recommend any adjustable gas blocks for the 308, at least for battle use - all of them have some reliability fault that could disable the gas system in battle. If you are using in a non-military role, any adjustable 0.875" block should work, although he recommends keeping the adjustment tools on you at the range.
(3) the gas system in their 18" 308 is set up to run with a heavy AR-10 buffer, the H-3.
(4) if you are worried about it being over-gassed due to a suppressor, heavier buffers and/or springs can help.
(5) if you can wait, they are working on the "Switchblock" for 308 (that will be ready in a year or so and you can drop it on the existing barrel no problem).

Hope something above helps you out!

Re: Noveske gas port hole Diameter?

Oh yeah, Joel at Noveske also recommended a website called heavybuffers.com - and here is the AR10 rifle buffer they offer:
http://www.heavybuffers.com/ar10rifle.html
That thing is expensive ($100) but at 10oz is about 2x the weight of a H3. Probably cures your can overpressure, but of course if you take the can off, the rifle probably doesn't cycle.

Joel also said that Vltor is making a heavier buffer in the 7oz range, but it looks like it only is useful if you have a Vltor tube.

Joel said they are invested heavily in the 308 Switchblock and will have it on the market in a year or so.
