I am looking to build out a couple of uppers. One in 5.56 and the other in 300 blackout, both with short (8"-10") barrels. Both will be ran suppressed and unsuppressed but not FA. I will use both subsonic and supersonic ammo on the 300. Unfortunately I drug my feet on getting the barrels and now they are like hens teeth. I found a Noveske 5.56 barrel 8.5 with no switch block. Is a switch block neccessary on a barrel this short or is there any discernable difference? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: Noveske Switch Block

I think the answers you're going to get are going to vary. I've asked this question specifically to Noveski's shop and was told that they put them on their short barrels for a reason.

Re: Noveske Switch Block

John used the switchblock units for suppressed use to limit the amount of gas going back into the receiver and also in the third setting to completly shut off the gas system as to mimic a single shot bolt action system. I have 3 different systems John built for me all with the switchblock and I will tell you that ALL work like a dream. They were not just for short barrels only. Mine are 12.5 " and two different 18" systems
