I'm new at reloading. Doing 6.5cm. I've noticed my accuracy suffering with more "flyers". I'm wondering if I've got problems with very inconsistent neck neck tension? Reason I say that is..... When I'm using my case trimmer, there's a section of the arbor that is pretty much the dimension of the neck i.d. When I'm trimming, I find it varus how snug the cases go over that area.
Any input would be appreciated. Please spare the dumbass replays. I got kicked off of here for much less, j/s.

How are you sizing? If you’re just using a bushing with no expander ball or mandrel, what you’re describing is common. You would likely notice neck tension variations during the seating operation as well. How does seating feel?

Do you have a way of measuring your headspace and BTO (base to ogive) length? Flyers can be caused by a lot of things so it's really important to know that all your measurements are exact to eliminate variables.

Going to give you an example. I've used an RCBS Rock chucker for almost 20 years. About 2 years ago I switched over to a Forester coax and noticed I was getting "flyers". Turns out that since I was using my RCBS dies in The Forster, my sizing was very inconsistent and was causing the flyers.

The seating feels more consistent, not that it's perfect. I can really notice it on the cutter/trim mandrel. I'll shoot groups of 3 or 5, and always one hole about 2" out nevertheless. Very wierd. Don't notice it on factory loads, but the factory loads are basically deer loads. Shooting a Savage tactical I just got. It's a shooter. Usually all holes touching at 100yds, but ONE!!!!

It's a rcbs die. I've used it in the past reloading 6.5 for my Browning. It hasn't the deprime pin with an expander thing on it. I'm a beginner, but I can tell you that. It's my loads, not the gun I'm certain. If neck tension is a factor at all, this is my problem because I can feel and see the diff on the trimmer mandrel
Some ya gotta use a small amount of force to shove on, others fall on. I'm gonna take my die apart and take a look.

How can that be? That die doesn't know what press it's in? Could I have my die screwed it the press incorrectly? The decapping pin to low, too high? I can see I have alot to learn, but I've been very successful reloading all 3 calibers I have until now.

Everything looks good on the die. (As far as I can tell)

I took the die apart, looked fine, cleaned it up, ran about 25 cases through it, seems consistent now. Idk, maybe it's just me, but they definitely varied before. We'll see. Thanz guys. TRUMP2020!

What the hell happened to your lock ring? Something that mangled could certainly cause inconsistencies. If your problems return, spend $5-$10 on a new ring.
Don't be an ass. Had to use it as a puller removing a stuck case. As long as the mating surface isn't marred, what's the diff?

Sounds like someone who wants magic potion and not hard questions that provide solid answers. Leave your feelings out of it and you may learn something.

At what point do you call a flyer a pull? Just curious while on the subject. If i shoot a nice group and i get 1 shot way off from the rest is it a pull or load issue? If its like a 1 inch off ? I am of course asking for a freind brcause i never pull shots.

What the hell is wrong with you? People are trying to help you. Your ammo sucks because you treat your equipment like shit by the looks of that die. I'd hate to see the rest of your "precision" reloading equipment. If your skin is that fucking thin, just leave. You wont be missed you fucking crybaby
Yeah, fuck you too asshole

The ones I've got are anywhere from 2" to 3" off. I'm not pulling that far, I'm sure. The funny thing is, my other caliber reloads ate fine. Maybe tomorrow I'll try this 6.5s in my other rifle. If the same thing happens, well....? Thanx for the input.

I don’t know how you don’t think the mating surface isn’t messed up zooming in on the pic the bottom of the lock ring is all kinds of out of whack
Sure thing. I'll take a perfect one off another die. See what happens. Thanx. Appreciate the feedback. You're pretty damn awesome. I smoothed er up on a surface grinder, but hey, looks are everything.

After alot of use, I finally somehow stuck a case for the first time. It was a son of a bitch, but I got the fucker out by putting a pipe coupling under the ring, and putting the bottom of the stuck casing in my vise at home. Then cranked on the lock nut with channelocks because I didn't have the correct boxend or deep well to fit. I was despatate to get the fucker out to continue to load for a get-together with my friends. I succeeded, but in the process mangled my locknut. Excuse the fuck outta me. If any assholes out there don't understand, kiss my ass. I opened up I'm a beginner looking for help. Can ya wise the hell up and get on topic now?
I'm a very active senior member on a Harley forum and never thought of treating a newfie like a fuckin idiot. More pleasurable and rewarding to help. There's dickheads everywhere, but this forum seems to have more than I'm used to. To the fuckin asshole, c'mon over to Tiffin Ohio and I'll show you what the fuck I DO know. Let me know where n when. Show ya some of this thin skin up close. Yeah you Axedick.

Yeah, I got a friend of a friend I've never really met, but called once. Really nice guy. He's an hour or so away, but didn't wanna call again without meeting in person. Trust me, I'll do that before I EVER ask another on here, that's for damn sure. The other couple forums I belong too (years) have off topic sections. Alot of times I can help. Not dunk or high
4yrs clean and sober after rehab. Rough road. Just turned 62 last week, worked in skilled trades in a union shop over 40yrs. I know a thing or two, but just found time for a new hobby. I help others when I can. Refrain from sarcasm and all the lofty know-it-all shit. For example, on another thread, a member said fill the case with such m such. And then, so n so
A newbie may not know better and someone gets scarred for life. Naaaah, no thanx, I don't need the disrespect and laughs these asshole got. I'll find another source of help and info. Maybe you'll be better to other new members. Ole Axe whatever can suck a big cock! Later.....

If I'm understanding correctly, you said the other loads you made up were ok (with other calibers) and your just having a problem with this caliber. This to me suggests it's the die/dies/lock ring. Just an idea.

Have you tried using a chrono to verify velocity spread and such? I get the not wanting sarcasm thing but people were genuinely being nice here and welcoming you right in as a noobie. Let’s put all that behind us and relax - this is a good place so let’s help each other.

Thanx. Appreciate the advice. I'll hafta see about the chrono. Also, Ive contacted the forem to be removed. May have over reacted, but I'm too old for the horseshit. See what happens. I do know one thing, of I'm not removed, of I got questions, I'll pm a decent member about it. Thanx guy!😁

If I may make a small suggestion regarding your reloading die. try cleaning the rust. While it may be unorthodox, using a vibratory brass cleaner is a great rust remover.

To be honest, if you had that much trouble with a stuck case, really you might want to send the die back to the manufacturer to have them check it out. I know, RCBS, Redding and Hornady are very nice about providing this type of service

Lol. Stop it. Ok, I'll do that. I'll have to admit, I don't see how a lil patina on the threaded pin adjustment would effect anything. I may get ahold of the company, idk. I'm about to write off the whole issue. I'm not noticing the variance while trimming anymore. Can't explain it. Thanx to everyone's advise. I regret even posting this. Been bad all round. FWIW, my equipment is in good working order and taken care of. This locknut has been abused, I admit, but I've explained how it happened. I haven't gotten to shot any 6.5 I've loaded recently to see if the super flyers have gone. Maybe not load at all? I just don't understand what went to hell. It coulda been I was using a leadsled too. The one I have is "hard to get behind the rifle". Maybe an inconsistent / poor cheekweld was in the mix? Things happened to improve going back to bipod and rear bag. IDK. Playing with my 22-250 presently. She shoots great! Seldom larger than .5moa with a few less than .25. fast. Got loads worked up with Varget, H380, etc. Also Savage.

Using a soft vice grip like this in your vice will be much easier on your equipment

Soft Vice Grips
Yep. Got a set to use when I changed out a barrel. I had to get a death grip on that stuck case. Wasn't gonna happen with soft jaws. My stuff is good as new, I hadta get rough with that die. At the time I figured I had nothing to lose. Worst case, buy another nicer set. Not that pricey, really.
I take impeccable care of my vehicles, bikes, atv, etc. Friends accuse me of being a neat/clean freak. Lol. The remarks pissed me off and made an ass of myself. I apologize sincerely.
