From the comments on the local San Antonio News outlets ,it sounds like they've had a long standing feud going on , with both threatening each other with guns in the past ,and Joss's house having recently been burned down and the neighbor suspected of doing it , plus the faggot factor might play into it as well , who knows.

This murder was obviously driven by Dale and his haunting knowledge of finding out he boned his wife and fathered his son. 
Wonder how that’s going to affect the King of the Hill reboot? Isn’t Boonhauer dead as well?
I've never seen an episode of the show, but based on what is printed about this, it sounds like maybe I would have shot him too if he was my neighbor.
I operate on a simple logic: everyone on this planet is alive today because I don't consider any of them a legitimate threat to my family.
Oh yeah, and I've lived in my current home more than 6 years now, and I haven’t met most of my neighbors. It's better that way. I don't need any new friends, and it eliminates the opportunity for a neighbor feud. I've had bad neighbors in the past, and once the relationship turns ugly, now you're just stuck there with them. Better just to wave and be friendly, but everyone mind their own business.

There's a video of Joss taken a few minutes before he was shot , of him walking up and down the street in front of his neighbors house with a pitch fork yelling obscenities at the person filming him and anyone else I guess , so the guy that shot him might have a self defense claim, he's bonded out of jail as of today and all the neighbors are throwing him a party. Ol John red corn wasn't too popular.
