I am through with Midway for a while.

Call Chris at Sport Optics. I am very pleased with the price and service they gave me.

Re: NXS or Mark 4?

Well, as soon as my credit shows up in my account from Midway, I think I will order from Sport Optic. Should I call or just order off the web site? Does anyone have a discount code?

Re: NXS or Mark 4?

Are nightforce scopes made in japan? I didn't think so but, I was just looking at a friend's 8x32 NXS and on the bottom it says made in japan. Is it just the glass or the entire scope?

Re: NXS or Mark 4?

I can't tell you for sure why the larger magnification scopes are marked made in japan, but they are assembled at the Nightforce factory like all Nightforce scopes. I'm not sure if the 5.5-22 will be marked made in japan, but I know the 3.5-15 is marked made in USA.

Talked to NF rep the other day and asked the same question. He said just the tube is made in Japan. I thought they used Japanese glass as well.

There are NF scopes made in the USA. They are NF F1 and the NXS 2.5-10x32 ( Glass made in Japan). All the other NF scopes made in Japan.

Re: NXS or Mark 4?

I know you have already made your mind up, but I think one thing that hasn't been brought up is what rifle your putting it on. You may want to stick with the 50mm obj. if you want lower rings and if your using an moa base. Just a thought. I've got two nf scopes and I love them both. I've never owned a mark 4 but I've spent some time behind my buddies and I'd still recommend the NF. Zero stops worth the money especially if your ranging a lot. Good luck!

Re: NXS or Mark 4?

I ordered a NF from Sport Optics. Jay is a awesome guy to talk to. If you are looking for a scope, give him a call. I decided on the 5.5x22x56, HS, ZS, NP-R2. It should be here this week! I will get a picture up as soon as I can.

Re: NXS or Mark 4?

While this is not a statistical survey you can see that when it comes down to it NF beats Leupold hands down. You have to wonder what was going thru the minds of the top brass at Leupold when they priced their new line of scopes in the $3.5 - $4k price range. The response generated by the question in the opening post suggests Leupold are going to have a tough time selling their scopes at these very high price points.

Funny I don't remember the 1.1-8 CQBSS being mentioned here. I thought for sure he was talking about the mark4 not the mark 8... I'm pretty sure that one retails for just under 2k...Feel free to get a free bash in though...

Well what's this then? It's one of Leupold's new Mk4's and costs $3100!

(sigh) so you're going to be that guy... Ok I'll play. The OP specifically said the 8.5x25x50 which if you get as an ER/t FFP with the new M5 turrets will still only run you about 1800 which is 1200 less than your low side number of 3k. The image you threw up is the 6.5x20x50 ER/T with the locking turrets which as far as I know is only available on that one model which is not the one he asked about. If you want to bash leupold for their prices feel free to start yet another thread about them. There are plenty of templates for you to use that are just a short search away. Otherwise try and stay on topic and respond to the original post.

Now as for the OP I also would pick the NF unless your active duty mil. Leopard gives an Incredible discount. I would take the money I saved and go to a shooting course at rifles only or any other reputable training center. I think a greater percentage of people on here than would care to admit it will NEVER exceed the capabilities of their optics. I'm not the end all authority on here by any means but I feel comfortable saying it's more about the shooter than the optic.

Sorry couldn't resist. I totally agree with the above comment you made though.

Leupold vs. Nightforce?? Not a contest as far as I am concerned... NXS all the way!! The NXS has all the features I could or would ask for... and more.

DK </div></div>

Can the human eye notice the difference in the 50 and the 56? The amount of light can't be much? The field of view is the same, so whats the advantage? </div></div>

I have both on two different rifles, in low light shooting, the 56 is much brighter. I figure that I get maybe 15 to 20 min of shooting time here in Alaska in the fall. </div></div>

At 22x, the 56mm puts approx. a 2.54mm sized image on your eye. A 50mm objective would put a 2.27mm image on your eye. 0.27mm difference.
