i have a nylon brush and every time i look at it i think it would be a good tool to run threw my evo to help clean the baffles. How ever i read in my hk ump manual that is not a good idea to run a nylon brush threw suppressors, is this true and if so why ?

I can't see it hurting anything, but why? Not like youre cleaning a large part of the baffle off with the brush.

wow grammar 101 again...

your right it wouldnt clean a huge part but if you got a bit bigger brush then needed you might clean just a bit more.... i tried it just a few on my evo and wow stuff did come out thats for sure... i let the can sit for 5 min with slip2k in their and after i shook it around and poured it out i ran the brush threw a few times and spun it clock and counter clock wise ya i will brush from now on

i was told that as well, but iam a cleaning/tinkering freak if iam to stingy with my ammo to go shoot it then i have to take something apart and F&*( with it and iam going threw a stage of that right now lol

Then why not dick around with you're UMP instead? Everything I've come to understand about center fire suppressors says that their a leave it alone until you absolutely have to fuck with it or regret it type of deal.

Re: nylon brush threw suppressor ?

Going by HK instructions isn't always a good means of telling whether something is good or bad. They are more worried about liability than reality. On the other hand I can see that losing a brush of any kind in a can will be a problem. Thats probably their worry.....in a lightweight pistol cal can like the ump or evo a few bristles off a brush isn't a worry. In a high power can like a .223 or bigger a bristle can be a disaster. Just a small piece of debris can deflect a bullet enough to hit a baffle and cause a great deal of damage. The blast of gas into the can can pick up a bristle and blow it into the path of the bullet. The .45 or 9mm isn't likely to be deflected by such a small piece, a hot rifle cal bullet at the speed its traveling can.
Having said all that the real truth is why run a brush of any kind through a can? It gains you nothing and creates a possible risk. The baffles rarely have any build up in an area that a brush will take off in any case. The build up is usually found in the back corners and hidden areas where a brush won't touch. The only cans that benefit in any real way from cleaning are the .22 LR cans which have tons of crap like wax, grease, unburnt powder, lead and carbon filling the baffles. A brush won't help that sort of thing either but taking it apart and cleaning each baffle by hand will fix it.

Hope that helps

i understand that completely, it wont clean the most powdered places but i did see a lot of gray junk come out after i brushed it... i guess it just makes me feel good to brush it out lol
