Obama Official Portrait

Definitely softened some facial features. Netither are terribly good likenesses. Not exactly "warts and all..." I'm no conoseir, but from what little I can see, I would say that neither are masterworks, rated solely on technical merits.

......the painting of Michelle doesnt even look like her.........its lacking her masculine buldge.

FIFY.

Last in the Economy of Graces in a black woman’s journey to self-understanding is empowerment. In Judith, the portrait pays homage to the iconic biblical figures Judith and Holofernes, who have been the frequent subject of religious paintings in European art. After being raped by Holofernes, an invading General, Judith lures him into a trap and decapitates him. Most European paintings portray Judith as a white woman with a sinister smile, along with devious amounts of beauty. She is often seen with an evil glint in her eye staring directly at her audience while she holds the head of the man she killed. However, unlike previous paintings, Wiley adds remarkable differences. He turns a gruesome scene into one of calm and peace. Judith, who was commonly painted as fearful or terrifying, is seen as courageous and powerful. Her facial expression shows a strong woman who is casually gripping the head of a white woman (“Kehinde Wiley”). By representing Holofernes as a white woman, Wiley reimagines Judith as an avenger for all women of color who have been historically excluded by the western European art tradition in favor of white womanhood. Placed in a contemporary context, the avenging message of the painting shows Judith sketching out society’s prejudices and negative stereotypes that hold her in bondage, instead positioning herself in a place of dignity and grace holding these afflictions in her hands.

Appears this guy has appropriated culture!

The one of President Obama wasn’t terrible, per se, just a bizarre background and a pose that doesn’t really reflect authority. A bit too artsy fartsy to me.
The one of Mrs. Obama is terrible.....like I wouldn’t have really known it was her.

My God, you are the former President and First Lady. One would think you could have virtually any portrait artist in the world, certainly in the United States.....why in the world would you pick these two losers? This isn’t a portrait for your house....it’s for the National Portrait Gallery for crying out loud.

I really think their intent was just to piss people off. They are communist agitators, after all.

Makes perfect sense that they'd pick a shitty racist painter to paint shitty pictures of them, knowing full well that generations will look at those pictures and find them out of place, and tacky.

Trump will not hire a radical social justice "artist" with no artistic talent to do the painting. Obamao's chillens could have done a better job on the painting.

Are you completely oblivious to things? Do you value so situational awareness so little that you missed the full page painting of some darker skinned lady holding a lighter skinned lady's head in her hands?

Did you even READ the essay on his paintings that I posted in this very thread?

Good grief...

Holy shit...

They should have called me. No seriously, I can paint better than that. There's a difference between fine art and art design and how the two are executed. It's like comparing a fart to a queef, they both may sound the same but are most certainly of different origin and value.

The decapitating lady... It's supposed to be a multi-layered allegory but of what exactly I can't quite finger. FWIW, a decline in art is directly proportional to the decline in the contemporary civilization. Judging by that "asshole wall of fame" up there, I'd say we've reached that point, and might I add quite fast.

The idea it was culturally appropriated from is one of a woman raped getting revenge on her tormentor.......

Yeah, I kinda get it has something to do with empowering black women, but it lacks or is weak in just about every area a painter should be well versed in BEFORE they actually start to use colors. Just saying I would have picked a better artist, especially if I could have ANY painter on EARTH.

Give me a painting from Edward Hopper while working in Truro or Gloucester and I could look at it all day and have a good feeling....

Sometimes art is meant to make you uncomfortable.

That guy made me pretty uncomfortable for 8 years with his effort to destroy the country so I dont need to go to a museum and take it in the balls again from him with his 6 fingered throne pose.

Just the narcissist being the narcissist - Hey look at me!

Absolutely... AND it's like porn, you know good art when you see it!

I'm really into Vermeer myself. A lot, so much so I took up copying some of his work. It's fun, but it's difficult working on this master's caliber. I like Dutch art in general, I feel they elevated oil painting and were always ahead of the game. The gentle quietness of much of Dutch art is what I really like.

I think that we are all devoting far too much attention to what will ultimately become a footnote to 21st Century American Political History.

An experiment tried, an experiment failed. The last Presidential election demonstrated that unlike many of the views expressed here, the electorate does learn from its mistakes.

Moral: minorities cannot be trusted to administer reasonably to the greater society as a whole; and neither can the Party which hangs its hat on the Class Warfare peg. All they win by their current campaign is their unassailable irrelevance. When their end comes, it will be diagnosed as suicide by democratic means (small 'd' intentional}.

Despite their clear defeat, they still can't help standing by their devotion to class warfare, and by their obtuse adamancy, they labor hard and long to weaken and destroy the very ground upon which they stand.

They are, in a word, psychotic.

Like it or not, these are the core lessons to be learned from the most recent past Presidency and the ensuing Presidential election.

I believe, personally, that these two unfortunate portraits will be relegated to dead storage before too long. Such is the response to the memory of embarrassing relatives once a tasteful duration is past.

Only Andy Warhol could paint an obvious cartoon and get it to sell, and his paintings were clearly far more accurate representations of their subjects.

Just to put it in perspective...

I know this is going to come across as mind blowing - and it is a damm shame .308 can’t be here to freak out on me... this is a message. And just like they knew we would all find out about Rev Wright, they knew we’d find out about the artist; and there is a message in that as well.

A discussion going on right now on 8chan states that the implication of the portrait is ‘slave garden’.

Muller’s probe was a trap. No deals will be made. Gitmo is being brought up to speed - quickly. Military Courts may have purview, Rendition is in play. Hillary was selling national secrets / Nuke material and missile technology to both Iran and Norks / helping the Russians corner the market on uranium / guns for drugs. Obama was complicit and profited as well. CIA runs North Korea. The history of corruption / perhaps the origins of corruption throughout the world is being attacked right now by Trump.

Good people in government really do exist, and this has been in the making for 3 years.

I know - too crazy right? Start looking into it. Scary part? Clinton crime ring is just the tip of the iceberg.

The story is being told in several places on the net. Here is a collection of all posts made by the group that is telling it. The group goes by the name of q anon on a next level version of 4 chan, called 8 chan. The group has proven itself to be very close to Trump. The story starts in October of this year. Scroll all the way to the bottom and start reading. Pick anything you want out of this and go do some independent study (please).

Q has been really clear - if they tore the band-aid off, it’d start a war. People have to wake up to this slowly.
