I have been playing with coal and found that when I seated out to 2.82" I got some very good groups but I also got flyers that were consistently and inch to inch and a half high and left. I didn't get these at 2.8. I am using varget, lc brass and 175 smk bullets. Could it be the brass I am using? I have some win brass here which was giving better consistency, the LC just lasts longer in my rifle (semi).

It could be me but I don't think so, I don't pull shots like that with the same load and a 2.8 length (shot 40 of them vs 20 of the 2.82s). As far as I know the bullet doesn't hit the lans until 2.84something but I could check again.
