Rifle Scopes Of Horus reticles and such...

So, I've recently become interested in the Horus Vision reticles. I've been reading as much as I can about them whenever I can find something. I just came upon this site: Horus Vision Reticles which helped a lot!

I have a few questions, or if someone can point me to a thread that has already discussed all this, that would help too...i.e. a "Horus-101" thread here on the Hide?

Anyway, can these reticles be put into any scope at a later time? I see that Leupy uses them as well as some others. The H59 looks really interesting to me.

Are they worth the ~$500 increase in price? Are they hard to use on lower power settings (readability)? I'm interested in using these for comps etc. where rapid follow-up shots would be used etc. I like the idea of hold-overs/unders vs. dialing turrets, so these reticles seem like a great thing.

To those that have used them for some time now, how was the transition and would you go back? Complaints? One reason I ask, is I came across a post for a scope with the H37 and the owner said "...<span style="font-style: italic">the H37 just won't lend itself to a 300AAC 500yd rifle</span>." Not sure what that means, but I guess the different reticles apply to different uses. I'm shooting a .308 with a 20" Bartlein, 175 SMK's and am interested in <700yds. mostly with of course occasional shots out to 1k yds.

To help answer some of your questions. What is your application? Is it for comps? For a "two way range"?

Most reticles have their place.

I ran a Horus for years at comps. You probably wont find too many scope makers that will change one out later. Takes rebuilding the entire scope.

It gets harder to read at lower mag, but you likely wont be at lower mag when you need the reticle for those kind of hold-offs, so its a self correcting problem.

tehyre nice, but I wouldnt pay the extra $500 for one today. There are other alternatives once you understand the system. Most of the alternatives arent as accurate as the hirus, but also arent as busy.

First, the reticle applies to every rifle its just a mil grid, and certainly your rifle be cause the mil is a constant to which the caliber/cartridge is the variable.

yes they can seem cluttered and busy or occlude the target to some degree, possibly be limited in low light situation but every reticle has limitations and advantages.

I have used extensively the H25 since 2004 and now the H58, which is a much more user friendly reticle in my opinion.

I had the pinnacle of all scopes S&B 4-16x50 GenII Mil-dot, and it was awesome glass function ergonomics. Yeah it was great and in competition it rocked, but I often found myself missing the grid. I had to dial elevation most every shot, but did use some hold overs, it just wasn't the same.

With my new Bushy HDMR I can hold over and dial more efficiently than with my old Horus Falcon and still have the grid when I need it.

I feel more comfortable with the Bushnell H58 in competition but thats probably because I have shot 14 of 15 matches w/ a horus reticle.

For those that like them nothing else will do.I've always liked them and they sit on many of my rifles.

Been revisiting shooting holdovers with the H-59 lately.Sometimes I wonder why I ever got into dialing again ???

Most folks hate em.That's just how it is.

The Horus HDMR is a great scope!Made by Bushnell for a military contract submission so it's very high quality.The H-59 is about perfect for my needs.Well worth the money!Got a few more on order.

Even for me the H-37 takes up too much space in the field of view.I like to use some clear space like a spotting scope when I need to.If I'm shooting waaaayyy out there I'll either dial the firing solution or put on a quick 10 mils and holdover for the rest.



I checked on getting Horus reticles put in some used scopes that I owned.Wasn't worth the money so I sold the scopes for most if not all I had into them and bought scopes that already had the Horus in them.

With just about any FFP scope it's harder to see the reticle when dialed down to the lowest power.Nature of the beast.Of course it is assumed that when you're dialed down that far it's for a very close shot.The reticle as a whole turns into point.Say it's a mans chest at 20Y.Easy shot on 3.5 power,even a head shot is easy.
