Ok so I’m from Ohio. Had a friendly argument with a North Carolinian the other day concerning the
“First In Flight” that NC claims on its license plates. He said that because the first flight happened
in NC then that state gets the bragging rights.
My argument is that the Wright Brothers;
Were from Ohio.
Conceived, Designed and built the first plane in Ohio.
Everything about the first airplane was born in Ohio.
The only thing that NC brought to the equation was wind.
I said that NC claiming ‘first in flight’ is like Nagasaki claiming they were instrumental in developing atomic
energy.

Any arguments?....

That doesn't minimize Ohio's agency in making the first flight happen, it would not have happened without the manufacturing capabilities found in Ohio, it also would not have happened without the significant coastal winds found in eastern NC. The wright brothers spent significant time and resources to find a suitable launch site and Kitty hawk fit because of wind and flat ground, if it we're of so little significance why didn't they just do it in Ohio? They couldn't. Now, if you really want an interesting argument about the wright brothers you should discuss the tactical disadvantage that their tenacity about their patents put our army air corps in during the first world war, we were decades behind in aviation development when we entered the war because the Wright's had basically stalled the entire industry with their persistence on their patents because they thought the airplane was all it ever needed to be. Ohioans sure seem to show their hatred of NCs useless windy beaches when they show up in gaggles every summer and clog the highways. But I'm sure Ohio has more to offer in scenic beauty as well with it's decaying factories, flaming rivers, and prolific meth labs.

I grew up on vinegar based south eastern NC BBQ, and I can't stand the ketchup stuff they serve in the mountains of North Carolina. South Carolina barbeque is hit or miss, I live I the upstate now and they don't have a strong BBQ identity. Some people here do mustard based, some do vinegar and some do that wretched sugary steak sauce mess. In this part of the state there are only a few respectable establishments, if you're ever near Clemson University, you should try the smoking pig in Pendleton, easily the best pork I've had in this state. I'm glad to see that all of you understand barbeque is a slow fire roasted pork product and you aren't in that wierd Yankee camp that thinks it's another name for a grill.
