I have I think a very old redding scale. It is in a red and green box and it is brown. A few questions. I was thinking about sending it in for a tune up. Is it worth it for such an old model? It takes forever for it to settle. Once it does it seems accurate. How do you make it not take so long to settle in?

I guess it is. I never had instructions for it. How do I check it? It was given to me by a friend of my Dads who has passed away when I started to reload. I used check weights to make sure it was on. But took forever to settle. So i purchased an RCBS electronic scale and used it to check it.

Yes, that is a oil dampened scale!

Use only SAE 10 weight oil (or it's equivalent) in it! Also, the oil should be filled to approx 1/4" of the top of the reservoir.
There should be a paddle that you place into the oil that dampens the movement!

Stick with the proper oil weight! I have the old instructions around somewhere.

Good scale! The Lyman M5 is just a little better IMHO.
