Not sure where to post this so I thought I would start here. What I have is an older pss with an 8 digit serial number begining with the letter "F" which from what I have read means it was manufactured in 1985. does anyone know the history of these early rifles? I have heard everything from it was a law enforcment department letterhead purchase only, to it is nothing more than a parkerized "VS" with an HS synthetic stock. I have also been told four different twist rates that it could be. The barrel has 6 thin lands with pretty wide groves. I have scoured the internet for information but only seem to come up with more questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

Re: older pss

Not sure what your looking for.

Is it 223, 308, or 300WM?

As far as I know the 223 came in 12 and 9 twist, the 308's were 12 twist and the 300 are 10 twist.

Some had different barrel lengths.
The stock is a little different from the VS. It has a fore end that is a little longer and wider. The grip has a palm swell and is straighter.

Besides the stock, finish, and little stuff like the crown and the writing on the barrel, it's the same as the VS.

Some of the early models in 223 came as 1-12 twist.
I believe you would be correct about current offerings though.</div></div>

LOL....RAD is 100% correct, early PSS 223s were 1-12". I bought 3 of them, all advertised as PSS 1-9" twist, 1 of the 3 actually was!!!

Re: older pss

They are extremely rare and very valuable.

Re: older pss

I have an "older" PSS

It is gray parkerized, has a 24" barrel (not the 5R), is in a HS stock and is one tack driving SOB. It shoots 1/4 MOA if I do my part.

I have read that the older PSS guns may have gone through the "custom" shop.. not sure if that is true ot not though. Whatever it is, I am not letting go of the one that I have.
