Yes. The SLC and SLC NEU are very similar. The HD is where there is a noticeable difference.

In my personal opinion if you can get a good used pair for a good used price they are totally worth it. The differences between the latest version and the older ones is not huge (I've used them side by side) and I've seen 20+ year old pairs that are still crystal clear. I would not hesitate to take an older pair into the field.
