There's a way to get google results without having to fuck with google. AND you can take care of a few other shitty problem makers along the way too.
1. A VPN. A good one you'll have to pay for but it's worth it. Strong VPN is a good one and I use it. --This one covers up your tracks in a nutshell and is important because Congress ruled to let ISP's track and sell your data now. They basically know everywhere you go, when you go there --everything except what you do on that page.
2. A different browser than a big name. Firefox is still recommended and it's finally been updated to the point where Norton and everything else on it works now. Awesome. --This one prevents microsoft, etc., from just raping you as they see fit because you use their services.
3. Set your home page to "Startpage.com". What it does is it takes your search commands, obtains the google results, then gives those to you on it's server. All the benefits of google, without the harm google seems to embrace. It's not gonna be as accurate because it has no data stored on you, but it's better than nothing/better than others. Try it out. --This one lets you get good search results while not allowing google to collect data on you.
And Microsoft and Google take FAR more than you think when you use their services. If you use Facebook (I have an acct. just to keep track of people but I don't use it unless someone contacts me directly) they basically fill in all the blanks the ISP, google and your browser don't have, and because they trade this information, it makes the more or less omniscient of your every move and they can even predict your behaviour with scary accuracy.
Those three things are pretty simple to do and go a long way towards maintaining your privacy. See, it does google no good if I don't go to their site or use any of their other products; same goes for microsoft and the others. With the VPN, the ISP can't track the meta data either. All they know about me is I sign on and go straight to some foreign server. Google gets nothing because all my searches go through that server and are routed through another service, Startpage. Firefox sorta makes it all work because the browser is a huge weak link and there aren't too many good ones that aren't big name except that one.
The other thing I should say about using all three together is it pretty much eliminated all the problems associated with ad and popup blockers and strong privacy settings. Otherwise half the sites you go to won't work or freeze up demanding you give away your first born. Not anymore, it only happens at a few sites and they're the ones with HEAVY advertising/unscrupulous practices.
Good luck.
