Off-duty officer shoots 17-year-old armed robbery suspect
The area thugs are young, dumb, well armed, and very dangerous!
MIAMISBURG, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - Clothes, a gun and empty shells are all that's left from a scene in Miamisburg.
It started around 2:30 Monday afternoon. Lindsay, the manager at Shell gas station on Byers Road noticed someone suspicious.
"I saw him sitting in like the fire zone," she told FOX 45's Shavon Anderson. "I was like, oh he shouldn't be there. I saw him get out and go into the store."
Surveillance video shows the man, with a red mask on, walking inside. He then pulls a gun on workers, taking cash from two registers before leaving the store.
"They're very shaken up," Linsday said about employees. "They're upset obviously."
Driving a possibly stolen black Chevy Camaro, police told Fox 45 the man stopped at the intersection of I-75 and SR 725.
"At that point, the young man got out with a handgun and began to go to other cars, apparently trying to get a different car," said Sgt. Paul Neinhaus, with the Miami Twp. Police Department.
Meanwhile, an off-duty Miami Twp. police officer was sitting at the light, watching the entire situation.
"The police officer got out with his own off-duty weapon, identified himself to drop the gun," Neinhaus said.
A Fox 45 employee was also sitting at the light. She wants to remain anonymous, but told crews the masked man ended up right beside her.
All of a sudden, "I heard what sounded like firecrackers," she said. "Three to four big pops."
According to Neinhaus, the man pointed his gun at the officer, who then shot him.
"I turned to my left to look out of my driver's side side window, and I saw a man in a winter hat and knit coat," the Fox 45 employee said. "His hands were pointing like this, with a gun in them, and there was a man that was face down on the concrete."
Both the officer and man shot were taken to the hospital. Neinhaus told crews he doesn't believe the officer was hit, but there is evidence that the man was able to fire at least one shot.
