Rifle Scopes One more time

I am about to buy a scope in the $400.00 range.
I think I have my choices narrowed down to either a used Bushnell 4200 Elite or a Vortex Viper. I do want a variable or I would have included a SS.
Is one clearly a better choice than the other?
I am leaning toward the Viper since there is more elevation available.
How does the glass compare?

The Viper is a safe bet. It does everything well, and Vortex's CS is light years ahead of Bushnell's....

I was reading another post about Bushnell 4200s. There was a complaint that the markings on the turrets were hard to read in dim light.
Is that so on all 4200s? If so I think the Vortex Viper makes the best choice for me. Unless I find a used PST I can afford.
