I am not sure if I am in the correct spot to ask this question? I have a Colt CR6724 which is an AR15 with a stainless 24” barrel. I have a scope mounted on it, but find I just might want it for a plinking rifle with open sights. The first question is there anyone that has put open sights on an HBAR and what do you think of it? If so, are there any front sights made of stainless steel to match the barrel or does black look OK? And lastly, how do you secure a front sight to this barrel without it looking hideous?

You could try some of the highpower shooting sights and see if any sights would fit that barrel. The only other way I can think would be to put a different handguard with a rail system.

Space gun sights like what Mitch said will work, as will swapping out your existing handguard for a railed unit that you can mount a BUIS on in combination with a rear carry handle or BUIS. Something like this on the space gun sights for example: AR Front Sight [AR Front Sight] - $199.00 : Phoenix Precision, Premium Target Rifle Gun Sights

Also, if you simply swap out the existing gas block for a railed unit, you can then run a front gas block mounted sight along with a rear sight of your chosing.

Plenty of super-quality match sighting systems out there for AR spaceguns. Robert Whitley's 6mmar.com, John Holliger's whiteoakprecision.com, Glen Zediker's books The Competitive AR 1&2. Brownell's sells a few aperture sights, mount adapters, barrel bands and other highpower sight gear. Might look at the NationalmatchUS websites for highpower and service rifle shooters.

Really, aside from using a carryhandle detachable the Highpower setups are very bulky for field use, better off with a scope on a flat-top unless range use plinking is your intended application. Could send a carryhandle unit to John Holliger for his pinned-matchsight makeover and you'd really have something, but a 24" barrel ain't really a benefit on a .223 Might have kind of a Colt rarity though. First I've ever heard of a 24" stainless factory barreled Colt upper.

if you google Glen Zediker you'll find his website and publishing business. lots of reviews and articles there. Likely some of what you're interested in...

good luck!

Looks like I may need some luck as I don't want to have something with zero resale value. At first, I thought it would be a cake walk to find a stainless sight which are not made. But, then putting a black sight on a stainless barrel might not be a good idea. If you Google Colt CR6724, it has the stainless 24 inch barrel and the CR6720 has a 20 inch. Right now they are really hard to find the Colts because of the anti-gun nuts along with what happen at Sandy Hook, just about anything is "GONE". Thanks for the reply...............
