Operation Anaconda

Just listened to Sean Naylor’s Not a Good Day To Die about Operation Anaconda in Afghanistan. Very interesting to me, being non military. The arrogance of commanders, inter-service rivalry etc. Got a lot of people killed. I’m sure you military guys are saying “well duh”.

Be interesting to hear what y’all have to say about this. Maybe even some who were there.

Seems requests were denied for several critical assets. No artillery and only 8 Apaches for CAS. When the Apaches returned from their first sortie they were shot to shit. Said only 1 rotor blade out of all 8 birds didn’t have bullet holes.

Read the book a few years ago. Great story of immense effort by the troops and again "lions led by donkeys".
