opinions of Savage tactical 110's

Re: opinions of Savage tactical 110's

It all comes down to what you deem a "nice custom rifle." For some, if its not a GAP, APA, etc, then its not all that "nice."

If you are looking for an entry level rifle, the savage will serve you well. I started out shooting Savage Tactical rifles and then moved up to more high end rifles.

I have had both a 10fp and a 110, and enjoyed each of them. I still own the 10fp. After putting an aftermarket stock on (bedded), installing an aftermarket trigger, and putting a Leupold Mk4 scope on it, it shoots damn good (3/4 minute or better).

Bottom line, the Savages are heavily modifiable, so the sky is really the limit. They are definitely excellent rifles for what they are.

Good point about the barrel nuts. Savages are definitely switch barrel rifles. You can get a barrel nut wrench with multiple barrels (and bolt faces) and have one rifle shooting multiple calibers.

If you go with the long action 110, you can switch barrel to short action non-magnum calibers, so you will have a lot more versatility.

The barrel nut is one of my favorite features, it eliminates the gunsmith fee when considering buying a new barrel.

Aside from the aesthetics of the barrel nut is there any negative aspect to having it? Does the design affect potential accuracy in some way? I've heard some people suggest this and was just wondering if anyone had any thoughts.

Re: opinions of Savage tactical 110's

I personally have a Savage 110fp in .308 or what used to be a 110fp until I shot out the barrel on it. It now has a McMillan A5 fully adjustable, a sharpshooter supply trigger, CDI bottom metal, and a benchmark barrel. Before the barrel was shot out the only limiting factor on this rifle was the blind mag. The rifle shot really well and served me well to the point that I put a US Optics SN3 3.2-17 on it and kept going until the barrel went. Now with it set up as it is it wears a US Optics SN3 5-25 TPAL and I go after KYLs and the only limitation is the shooters abilities. If you want to see how well a Savage will do look at http://snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2699562&page=1 my name is Michael N.

Re: opinions of Savage tactical 110's

See my sig. My rifle is built off a Savage action and I have no problem holding my own with EXTREMELY expensive rifles. My total rig cost with everything is under 2k but most of that is my new stock and bottom metal. If I stayed with the old B&C my complete rig comes in under 1500 and will shoot right with or outshoot $3k rigs all day.

Good luck,
Merritt

I used to have a early 110 FP "Tactical" in 300WM. It was a nicely built rifle and shot very well. I've not handled any of the newer models to compare. I wish I had not sold it.

I've heard the same from some very experienced shooters. So I decided to give Savage a try. I have a LRP in .260 Remington on the way. The guy I bought it from sent me a photo of an all-holes-touching 5 shot group at 100 yards. Can't wait to try it myself.
