I really wanted to build a 7mm RSAUM on a surgeon 591, but i have a good deal on a TRG 42 300wm. It hasn't been shot much, but want I am thinking is I would take barrel off and rebarrel in 7mm mag. The only thing I am not liking about the idea is the cost of mags, but everything is looking good to me. What do you think?

Re: Opinions on a new build

Shot my 7mm rem mag Sendero a lot and it is a laser beam with 168 bergers. 25 moa drop at 1000 and fairly cheap to feed.
Whats not to like? Barrel ife has been real good also.

( and if you want to hang out with the cool kids just tell them it is a 7mm necked down to 284!!)

Re: Opinions on a new build

If you are going to reload, also think about how much more powder you are going to waste with the 7RM vs the RSAUM for similar speeds.

I would go with the Surgeon RSAUM, should have a longer barrel life and cheaper to reload for.

Re: Opinions on a new build

I recomend the Sako all the way. I ordered a new trg 22 with the same plan to rebarrel to a 6.5mm. I decided to shoot it first, and now its almost 2 years later. You cant buy the ergonomics and quality of the trigger in the trg. I love jewels and mcmillans (I have owned many) but the trg IS better.

Re: Opinions on a new build

How do you TRG owners like their bipod? As far as looks, well it is very sexy, but is it worth the money, or should I go with the Atlas system for the TRG?

Talk to any competent gunsmith on here

Re: Opinions on a new build

I am a TRG fan myself, all I have now is TRG's (2 .308's, and 1 .338 lapua) and one Rem 700 in .260 Rem. I am wanting to do one of my TRG's in 260 yet. Maybe sometime in the future. About the bipod, well it is expensive and I thought about it for a while before I went and bought one. For me, it was worth every penny spent. I like it way better than a Harris for sure. Plus, it is easy to put on and off between my three other rifles.

Re: Opinions on a new build

yes it does. Some say they dont like the cant due to being to loose. I used a simple O-ring to help stiffen the cant up and works like a charm.
