Hey guys, I recently came upon an opportunity to swap an ACOG of mine plus some extra of course (my offer would total no more than 1400) for a Nightforce 3.5-15X50 Zero Stop MIL dot scope.

for a little background....
I just, and i mean literally less than 24 hours ago got my first "high end optic" mounted up in rings and on my gun. Its a USO SN-4 1.5-6 all mil with a digital blue reticule and its the most gorgeous thing i have ever looked through.

This new deal that I have in front of me to swap and ACOG plus some extra for a NXS scope sounds like a decent trade off. What I am looking for in this scope is hopefully it may find a home on a new really nice AR-15 SPR that I am building. I also firmly believe that this higher magnification scope will allow me to reach out to 7,8,9 and maybe even 1000yards more easily, than with a 1.5-6 power scope.

Am I thinking the wrong thing here? Should I just hold on a second and go to the range first and practice with my new USO?
Or, is this a opportunity and should I jump on it?

Re: Optic advice (swaping my ACOG for a MIL dot)

I would try to answer the question: What purpose the rifle the optic is going on will serve?
This should help you with the selection.
Personally, I think 1.5-6 is more of a general purpose/three gun optic, while NXS would be more appropriate for a "precision"/sniper rifle.

Re: Optic advice (swaping my ACOG for a MIL dot)

I Currently was planning on using this USO SN4 1.5-6 on a 16" "precision" AR that I am building. But with the opportunity swap my ACOG and a little Insight CVL for this BIG 3-15 NXS seems like it may better suit my 16" precision rig that I am building and for me to move my USO over to a 14.5" rifle I have.

I uderstand the USO SN4 is amazing three gun optic, but the clarity of the glass... I can easily look out my window and range things with the mils hashes on the reticule at 750 yards away.

I just think that if I am going to actually try to shoot at those distances I would rather have more magnification than needed rather than less and try to make do.

......sounds like i've already made up my mind, I guess im just looking for a reason not to.
